I live in Alaska. Two and a half years ago, we had a dish and 4 receivers installed in our house. We subscribed to the America's Top 180 package with Dish Network. I decided a moth ago to add some movie channels to our package, I called the customer service number to verify the package that I was currently paying for, and when I looked at the list of channels on the website I realized I was not getting quite a few of the channels that I was paying for (after 2 1/2 years). When I called customer service back the representative informed me that I could not receive those channels unless I had 2 dishes because I live in Alaska. When I signed up for the service I was never advised of that fact. Then when I asked the representative why I was not advised of that fact he said, "we only address the concerns you call about we do not offer other information". To imply that it is not their responsibility to tell me that I do not have the appropriate equipment to even allow me to get the channels that I was paying for. I have emailed them several times with the only response being a blanket email response, and the customer service center is useless. We are a military family and in this time of war and, money is very hard earned, to lose it like this is insulting.

Lost money with Dishnetwork but got it back

I had an account for over two years with Dishnetwork in Virginia. In December of 04 I had pre-paid my account through the month of January 05. We were moving to another apartment and planning on having them move our stuff with us. As it turned out, we were unable to have them because our complex would not allow a satelite to be placed on our balcony.
After telling Dishnetwork this on January 7th, we were denied a refund of our pre-paid monthly fee. The rep told us that they do not give refunds for the same month.
After arguing and getting nowhere, a friend of mine suggested I contact our local political representative. After sending a nice letter telling him how I was a registered voter and having problems with a business operating in his jurisdiction, I actually received a letter back from his office!
I was told they would look into the matter and in less than three weeks, I received a full refund. The Congressman was Jim Moran, and I must say I was impressed.
You may want to contact your local leader since voter opinions seem to gain more favor. It is worth a try at least. It did work in my case.

Remember years ago when all you needed was an antenna and you could pick up several channels?
Know why you can't anymore?
Companies like Dish Network & Direct TV and all the others have jammers. They jam the broadcast signals from your local t.v. stations and then force you to pay for them.
I can't get one single channel on my t.v. without dish or cable.
These greedy mofos should hang their head in shame.
As for being the money of a military family being hard-earned. I simpathize with you as we are also a military family and my husband is now emotionally scarred from his 2 tours in Iraq. We deserve better than this sh**. And we are terrified that he will have to go again.
Back to Dish Network - My aunt & uncle just closed their shop last week. They used to unstall Dish Network & Direct T.v. amongst other things. I thought they were making a killing because they had their own business. Did you know that they are not paid at all for installing the satelites, and they only receive $1 per month for each customer they have. Not to mention they had to pay for the lost receiver when someone stopped paying their bill and did not return the equipment. What a greedy, stinking joke.
Shame on you satelite people. The cable people aren't any better.
