when had dish network installed at my home, they sent out a contractor that in my opinion was just horrible. where do they find the installers? at the local corner drinking establishment. my point being though, is i fell behind on the bill and decided i needed to cancel the service. without notice from dish, they took initially 200.00 cancellation fee out of me account. that was not authorized by myself and they did not notify me..hence causing an overdraft in my bank account. the following day to make matters worse they took an additional 450.00 from the same account. resulting in further overdraft charges.

when i talked to a not so friendly customer service rep. and asked about the charges they informed me that 450.00 was charged for their equipment..2 boxes and 4 remotes..they informed me that the 450.00 would be refunded once they received their equipment and they were going to send out a box. they took their time getting me the box, almost a week passed before i received it!!! im sending them their boxes with a signature required that way they cant say they never received them and keep the money..

dish network is dishonest and just a bad company to work with overall!!! i told all my friends and coworkers, they are going to tell their friends and coworkers..dish network is a horrible company and has even worse ethics and customer service..never again will i give them my business

Be Careful About Agreements Entered

AUTHOR: Dezi - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, May 24, 2009

When you enter contracts with any large company and rely on them to provide you leased equipment, you should always know that there is a timeline before you will be charged for not returning their equipment. A slam on the company is not always the best route. You may want to understand in the future that the company is carrying the risk for you and you have your end of the agreement to hold up once you sign their contract (which you would have had to do during install).

The contract is for SERVICE. You are absolutly correct, if you don't have service your contract is null and void. As an installer I would not have activated your service until after the dish was installed and line of sight achieved.

They should not be charging you for a service you cannot get. Perhaps taking them to court for the charges will stop the thugs from trying it on another person. Don't let them get away with this, sue them. As long as you bring proof that you cannot possibly get line of sight. Was this installation done professionally, or did you try to do it yourself?

DISH is a horrible company! The local contractor lied to me and said that I didn't need to contact the company to set up services and that he can do the same work but better. Anyway, I moved to an apartment and when DISH came to hook me up again they told me that I had not line of sight and was basically out of luck. I called DISH to cancel services and they apparently did. Well the contracted called me all upset asking me why I canceled services. I explained to him that I had no line of sight and the service was useless to me. He told me that I signed a contract and had to pay or else I was going to be charged a $2000 cancellation fee. The contractor said that DISH would charge him and he would have to turn around and charge me the fees. The contracted told me to just go ahead and pay for services for another couple of months and then cancel. That was last year and the supposed cancellation was October 2008. I contacted DISH directly and told them what the contractor said. DISH said that it was incorrect and that I needed to cancel in June of 09'. I then went ahead and made changes to the cheapest plan possible so I could get rid of this nightmare I wasn't paying for. In the meantime I kept their crappy equipment in a box so that when the June 12th date came along I would call them and cancel their pathetic services that I was paying for with no service! DISH sent me a recent "DID YOU FORGET" to pay your last bill statement and I was going to pay them this month. Well to my surprise when I pulled up my checking account online those Basta***s took $300 out of my checking account without notifying me!!!!! There was no warning letter, no your pretend services have been canceled notice, NOTHING! I called DISH and of course they kept referring back to the "contract". Hello, I moved two times and who keeps anything that they don't use anymore! They told me that they would refund the money as soon as I return the equipment and that it would take about a month. Yes I agree that people need to read their contracts but I think it's just bad business to make people pay for something they can't use because their is no line of sight (out of my control) and then take something without warning anyone or sending a letter letting them know. I have UVerse with ATT and there is no contract. I will never ever have a service of any sorts that requires a contract for utility services. EVER! People need to know about DISH before they sign up. They are sucked into the great deals and are so excited about getting over 1000 channels, but are never told that when they move to make sure that they have line of sight or else they will be paying for something they can't use and can't cancel until their contract is up. I never turned in my equipment because I was waiting for my contract to be over with. If I turned it in, then they would have came after me for breach of contract and charged me over $2000!! They are a RIPOFF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You agreed to the contract when you signed it. But, more than likely, you never READ the contract. There's no rip off here, except for YOU trying to weasel out of your obligations.

Where is the Rip Off?

AUTHOR: D K - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, February 18, 2009

You were not Ripped Off. The early termination fee is included in the contract you signed as well as their right to charge you for the equipment until you return it. Read what you signed again... you will see.
