Pulled up my  annual credit  report and saw  Farmes  Ins. Group on it.  Since I never dealt with these guys in my life  I  called  Transunion  and asked them how they could pull up my report without my  authorization.

The  answer  was  "they  only  made an  account review,  they don't  need your  authorization for that,  you have to call them to find out why  they did it if  you don't  have an account with them."

I  tried to call the number that was posted on my  report but it was a  fax number.  Called Transunion again:  "sorry,  thats the only number we have  for them,  we can't  help you."

I googled  their  address on 4680  Wilshire Blvd (the one that was printed on my report)  and  called  that  office.  They  hung  up on me several times and  finally  they  gave me the number for their "service center"   in kansas.  naturally,  they  did not have any  idea  what I  was talking about  and were  not able  to answer my  question  why  Farmers  pulls up my  credit report  if  I  never  contacted them  or  made  any  sort  of  inquiry.  Actually,  I  would  never  do  any  business with them  after  all the reports that I  read  and  I  would  not  even think  about  applying for insurance from them.

It  looks  like  they  use  credit  reports  for  marketing purposes  to  sneak into  peoples  finances.

Where is  the privacy  in this  country ?    It  stinks  that  this is  legal.

Social Security number for marketing purposes ?

AUTHOR: Steve - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, August 31, 2009

Once upon a time Social Security numbers  were created for  social security purposes.

Then  Credit reporting agencies  started to use these numbers  to check people's  creditworthiness  and  now  any  company  that is  associated  to  the credit reporting agencies  can look into anybodies  finances  to check if  they  belong to a  potential target group ???

What  really  sucks  is  that  nobody  would  give out any information,  everything happens behind your back  and you don't  know  what  kind of  information these  companies  actually have about you.

This  used  to be  "The  Land of  the Free" -  now it  is  "The  Land of  the Screeners",   you can't  even  send  $ 30,-  to  Mexico  anymore without  giving out your social security number,  maybe in a few  years you have to provide your SSN  to  Wal-Mart when you want to buy  a  dozen eggs.  One  day  you won't  be  able  to fart without leaving a  trace in your credit report and making it  public  to  any  insurance company in this country.  There  was a  time  when  America  claimed to be  the Land of  the Free  versus  communist  countries  that controlled  their citizens.  i  am  under  the impression that  now in these  days  Americans have  less  privacy  than  a  russian or  east german citizen  in the 1960s.

What its for

AUTHOR: Dragon - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, August 28, 2009

The real reason any insurance company pulls credit is so that they can see what kind of risk you are to insure.  If you have a lower score your deemed not likly to pay you insurance so they raise the rate and vise versa for good scores.  I am sure they do market but it is more to see the risk involved in insuring you.  here is an example

Lets say you have some bad debts  they want to know are you(anybody) the type to have an accident to pay off other debts.  Now im not saying that is what everyone does but i have seen it out there.

I worked for a company that did that not happy about that but thats what they did and its not against the law either.

There are two types of inquires..

AUTHOR: Robert - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, August 28, 2009

From your description this was a "soft" inquiry.  These type of inquiries do not need your permission or authorization.  This is because they only get a very limited "look" at your credit report.  These inquiries are not seen by anybody except you, so they do not effect your credit score in any way.

You do have the ability to stop this by "opt-ing out".  To do this go to optoutprescreen.com.  Just be sure you go to the correct site or you may end up signing up for some "service"
