I am reporting fraudulent and unethical business practices of Farmers Insurance Group / 21 Century Insurance in relation to an auto accident claim.

During the week of Oct 10, Claudia Carreon of Farmers Insurance called me and said that Farmers was willing to settle the claim by paying me $300 and another $120 for just a doctor's visit. I informed her that I do not know how much a doctor's visit costs plus medical expenses would cost and therefore cannot agree to the settlement at that point. I told her that I was not a medical doctor, and neither was she, and therefore we cannot determine the extent of the injuries, until I see a doctor. I was promised compensation for the day lost on Sept. 30, 2011. She agreed to wait for me to see a doctor first and then submit the claim later.

I was promised a comparable car by Farmers Insurance. Mine was a Honda Accord - clearly a mid-size sedan by any standard. When I arrived at Enterprise Car Rental on Saturday, Oct 8, they said only a tiny compact car was approved by Farmers. I felt that this was not fair. The Enterprise rental agent gave me a ridiculous and suspicious explanation as to how Farmers Insurance determines a tiny compact car to be comparable to a mid-size sedan! I do not want to drive a tiny compact car due to safety reasons. Therefore I called Farmers Insurance HelpPoint which turned out to be an unhelpful collection of dysfunctional employees. They all had no idea how to get a comparable car approved. They gave me phone numbers of all kinds of Farmers employees who obviously were not working on weekends. Enterprise Car Rental needed approval on Saturday, Oct 8. But Farmers did not exist on weekends. Once these Farmers Insurance phone employees had me talk to a manager 'Dora' who could give a hoot about my problem. Then they had me call someone by the name Stacy Perry at 949-809-7063 who did not exist on weekends. Then they had me call someone by the name Brian at 626-587-9060 who also did not exist on weekends. From 10:45 AM to 1 PM, I spent agonizing hours calling this insurance company and getting the run around. Finally I was angry and yelled at Farmers saying that I'll report this to the Insurance Commissioner of the State of California. They did not care one bit!!! Is it possible that these employees of Farmers Insurance truly believe that they are above the law and have no obligation to assist a claimant?

Since I refuse to do business with such callous and criminal corporations like Farmers and their illicit employees, I decided to terminate my homeowner insurance with them on Saturday, Oct 8. When I started talking to insurance agents of other companies, I realized that Farmers Insurance agent had sold my family an inappropriate home owner policy in 2005. They have sold us a DP3 policy - one that's fitting for a rental home, instead of a HO3 policy - one that's proper for a primary residence. I went through two Farmers insurance agents and neither one of them honestly told me what was going on. All they wanted was just the money. This created even a bigger problem for me since my personal property was vulnerable due to shortcomings of Farmers insurance agents. Now due to the greater risk now created by Farmers, I had to spend many hours shopping for homeowner insurance. Learning the details of insurance policies and their differences is a very time consuming job. I was forced to postpone taking care of my medical situation and treat my medical problem with pain killers during this time.

Let's talk about this bogus HelpPoint Claim Services (800-435-7764) of Farmers: this service seems to do nothing different than what other small companies do - minus a fancy title. That much is clear from my experience with them for the last few weeks.

After I visited the doctor on Oct 18, 2011, I immediately called Claudia of Farmers Insurance and informed her about that. She called me back the next day and asked me to fax the doctor's bill to her to process the claim. At no point did she ever say that my claim will be denied based on the intensity of the accident. I faxed the attached two pages to Farmers' fax at 877- 217-1389 on Oct 19, 2011. The first page contains the receipts for medical expenses for $163.98 and the second page is the documentation for loss of day on Sept 30, 2011. Since a great amount of aggravation was caused to me by Farmers insurance employees when I was trying to get a rental car approved, I also asked for compensation for Saturday Oct 8, 2011. Then I get a letter a week later that my claim was denied. This is fraudulent and unethical.

I have suffered immensely trying to deal with this criminal organization and their disingenuous employees. The run-around and the incompetence of the operations of Farmers is very aggravating since Sept. 29, 2011. I feel that Farmers Insurance owe me at least $ 5,000 in damages. We need to you investigate them and their employees for fraud and unethical business practices. These are the kinds of criminals we need to put behind bars.

DP3 vs HO3

AUTHOR: Al - (United States of America)

POSTED: Wednesday, November 23, 2011

Robert, Just a point. The mortgage only cares if the structure they hold the note on, is covered. They are not concerned if the owner has any liability, medical, or personal property coverage. They have no interest in areas of coverage that they do not hold a loan on. A smaller local lending institution may have caught it and notified the client, but the larger ones neither have the time or inclination to do so.

As the DP-3 and the h*o-3 have very similar coverages on the structure itself, the mortgage would be satisfied that the homeowner carried coverage on the home.

As an insurance professional going on 25 years I cannot explain what the agent did. I could assume (and we all know what that does) that either he/she: 1.Was new and didn't know what the difference was. 2.Mistyped in the wrong box when inputting the application, even in that case he/she should have caught the fact that there was no coverage where needed. 3. Intentionally misquoted and submitted the application in order to get the business at a lower rate. 4. None of the above.

Original poster, your story is not uncommon when dealing with these people.

I'm a little confused

It appears that this happened on September 29th.  You did not mention if you were at fault or Farmers is the other drivers Insurance.

It seems as you lost 1 day of work on the 30th, but you didn't even look for a Rental car until October 8th, and didn't even see a doctor for the first time until October 18th.  So I would seem to figure that the injuries and/or damage was minor.  So your biggest complaint is that instead of getting a Mid-Size car you were given a compact.  But because of this problem you think that you are entitled to $5,000 in damages.  Do I have this basically right?

Well what you have described is hardly justifies people being put behind bars.

What exactly was the damage and injuries that would justify this?

Why didn't you mention the make of the Compact car they wanted to give you?

As to your other issue.  Unless you own your house free and clear I find that hard to believe.  Because the Mortgage lender is going to want proof of insurance.   Once you sent them a copy of the policy they would have immediately informed you of the error.  So it may have gone a few months, but not 6 years.

. Learning the details of insurance policies and their differences is a very time consuming job. I was forced to postpone taking care of my medical situation and treat my medical problem with pain killers during this time

- Okay you didn't find this out until the week of the 10th.  If your pain was that bad why didn't you go see a doctor between Sept 29th and Oct 9th?

I am not saying that they are not giving you the Runaround, but it seems as if there is quite a bit being left out.
