I filled out the pre-approved credit card application. I was not one of the others who had to send in a application fee. I don't apply for cards that ask that. I know that is a scam. However, this application did not ask for any money upfront, so I sent back the application by mail.

Today I received the letter telling me; they need me to verify my mailing address by sending them a copy of my driver's license or utility bill. I have never been asked to verify my address. My credit report has the information. I have a few different cards, and they have never asked me for physical documentation of my address. The letter I received today, states,"To help the government fight the funding of terrorism and money laundering activities, Federal law requires all financial institutions obtain and verify information to identify each person who opens a new account. Because of this, we are required to verify your mailing address. You may provide us with verification of your mailing address by sending a copy of a utility bill or government issued identification that matches the address on your application, as listed above." Well, I don't believe this.

I think the company is a scam. If you look at the grammar mistakes, like the extra space between "government" and "issued" you will understand. I am an author, and the first rule is, any type of grammar mistakes on websites or letters means they are not legit. If they cannot take the time out to proofread their own material, what makes me think their business practices are sound? I don't believe this, and I would never make a copy of my license or bills for some company that contacted me by mail in the first place. That should be verification enough. If anybody wants to research the so called Federal law they are referring too, I would like to know if that even includes address verification.

As for the other two people who gave this company props. I think they are fake. I do not believe them either, and I thought the minute I read their blogs.

Thanks for your time in reading this.
