   This is tragic.   There you go and bet your life and turn out to be wrong by at least 60%.  Do not be surprised if someone from this site named Mr. Rik, shows up at your house and tries to kill you.  He really takes these things seriously.   

I'm sorry about your experience at Goodwill :-(  but I don't think it's typical.  I worked at Goodwill for almost a year while completing a practicum in mental health counseling.  Our Goodwill was one of the larger training centers.  The Department of Rehab Services would refer disabled clients for job training, and the staff were quite successful at it.  My role was to provide social skills training.  An interdisciplinary team worked with each client. 

At our annual awards dinner, the "client of the year" was a young man with mental retardation. He spoke about how his dream was to work at Taco Bell, and thanks to Goodwill he was able to learn janitorial skills and hold a job. There wasn't a dry eye in the house. 

For every sad tale such as yours there's at least one success story like his. 

Don't give up on Goodwill.  It's a good organization.

It never occurred to me that maybe their main reason for being is to provide jobs in the stores for those who are shut out of the main job market. That said, I've never seen anyone noticeably disabled in the half dozen stores around us. I suppose its possible the disabilities of some workers may not be physically or visually apparent.

I suppose they could be providing work for otherwise homeless individuals, or those desperate to provide for their family with no other recourse, but not necessarily disabled.

And I now have an idea of the kind of community outreach they've done and hopefully still do.

- You may want to re-think that statement.  Like every Non-Profit Goodwill must perform audits.  For them about 83-86% goes to various programs to help people.  The remaining 24-27% is basically "Administrative Overhead" which would include the salaries.  So if you have something concrete that instead of 24-27% it is actually about 90% I am sure that the IRS would love to talk to you.

My guess is that like other disgruntled employees(and yes you are one), you don't like what you are doing and feel some "entitlement" that you should not only do what you want, when you want but get paid more money.  For someone who appears to be a person who does nothing more than accept donations, you seem to know a lot about the entire organization including the status of everyone working at their corporate headquarters.  If you have the ability to understand the entire Goodwill organization it would seem that you have enough ability to get a job at places that would pay you more to what you think you should get.

I'm a disgrunted employee? Not likely it's called when a company is defrauding the public I call out there bullshit, There money goes to the corp offices located in each state, each state has one and the ceo's and even the people under him are making 10 times the national average at the minimum, I've even seen some ceo's in the largest cities earning 50x times it almost 300k do you call that helping the disabled people? I highly doubt it, We only have one store open here in our city, and I know for a fact only one disabled person still works there and he is doing the s**t jobs, and they never keep anyone on the floor that is disabled or has problems, they are normally put in the back in the sorting area, donation area or cleaning some dirt up they are the people that don't get paid nothing although no one really does not even anyone except for the head manager of the store, they tell us if we write low prices on items we will be fired or written up and some people think we horde all the good stuff in the back and buy it our-self well we have a rule where we have to leave it sit on the floor for 24 hours before we can even buy it and most likely if a sorter priced it low to rip the company off and buy it, someone would grab it in 24 hours, we have no guidelines or price guides, YOU choose what you want to mark it, I've seen some of the sorters marking things higher then they cost brand new in the store which is normally what all of them do or it's full blown retail price which is ridiculous for dirty, and broken items get the real facts for yourself, you go inside a store and try to notice how many disabled people are working in the store or have high top paying jobs, hell the corp offices had no one disabled working there I mean nothing but guys in suits and such.. I know you can't always tell a disabled person from the looks but yeah judge it yourself.. I guess now they are suppose to keep the high priced items and sell them on the online site sorta like ebay for goodwill. I'm not sure if a disgruntled employee is the right person to ask that question about the money.  I know for a fact that they are one of the few organizations that hire disabled people. 

I have never worked for them although, I can remember when I was a child, mother on welfare, and couldn't afford christmas gifts, that Goodwill sent me a package with clean shorts, candy, and a small toy. 

I have never forgotten that and to this day will give to the Goodwill and bypass the Salvation army.

I have no real axe to grind with Goodwill, but I am curious, where exactly does their money go? I at least have an idea where the Salvation Army store proceeds go, but not Goodwill. And what's with the pricing lately? I think both stores ask way too much for many items now. Their prices ought to be more in line with typical garage sales. It seems to me they're either using Ebay as a guide, or pricing things a certain percentage of new msrp, which really doesn't make for a bargain on a heavily used item.
