Oreck Lousy Brush System Cookeville Tennessee
*Consumer Comment: My Oreck XL9100 was purchased May 1992 and still wonderful!
*UPDATE Employee: Anything BUT Lousy
I have owned an Oreck XL9100 for about 8 years. About once a year I have to replace the brush because it gets clogged with hair, or whatever. Oreck has not helped me with a solution. There solution is to take it to a dealer which will charge me more money than the cost of a brush which is easily replaced by removing 5 screws, detaching the belt and removing and replacing the brush.

Yes, it really is that old and wonderful. I took my XL9100 in for the annual tune-ups for the first 5 years (5 free) and then once every 3-4 years. I will agree that running a box cutter down the wood brush bar makes cleaning the brush super easy and there is no need for replacement(s).
I understand that tune-ups are an additional expense...
However, now that my over 16 yr old needs service of a grand total 169.88 to be as good as new I am thrilled!!! I have paid for some tune-ups, one set of headlamps, one set of side brushes for the baseboard edges.
Tomorrow when I return my free loaner, Oreck XL21, I will have a hypo-allergenic 8 pound upright vacuum that I expect to last at least another decade. I like the fact that it easy to store. Having no on-board tools makes it small to be easily stuffed in a storage closet.
I found this Rip-Off report only because I was looking to find my new replacement vacuum. I did not find anything comparable to my old XL9100 when I was searching the internet.
side note: the hand-held vac with all the attachments lasted 15 years until I replaced the motor in it last summer.
I completely understand how and why Oreck has such customer loyalty.
The Houston area retail/service locations are great.

The reason hair and string are on your roller brush is because the vacuum is actually dueing it's job, picking stuff UP, that most vacuums will not. All you have to due to avoid any problems with the roller brush bearrings, is keep it clean. The brush bars are designed of wood for that reason, they are safe to cut down with a box knife (and will not harm the wood) Just cut end to end, and turn the vacuum on. It will suck up the hair and your problem is gone.
