My personal vehicle needed extensive repairs, and I needed a vehicle for at least four days because I had doctor appointments.  On January 6, 2016, I went on line to find a good rate for a rental car and after researching Budget, Dollar, and a few others, I chose Payless because their rate was so good -- actually, too good to be true.

I read the terms and conditions because I could not understand how they could rent a car at $8.05 (before taxes/fees) per day, and I could find nothing that indicated it could be misleading.

So for four days, I paid a total of $66.26 and was happy.  When I returned the car on time and before it was due on January 11, I was presented with a receipt that had a "concession recovery fee" of $13.76; a Loss Damage Waiver of $99.96; a Cust. Fac. Charge (4.50/dy) of $18.00 and an Energy Recovery fee (0.60/dy) of $2.40.  My subtotal was $169.32, tax @9.250% $15.66 and a "your non taxabale items" of $1.41.  The total charges were $186.39.  My "prepayment" of $66.26 was deducted leaving a balance due of $120.13.  Yikes!  This was never explained or indicated on the site or by the customer service person.

I sent an e-mail and never got a response.  I contacted the BBB in Nashville, TN, and they tried to help, but Payless is standing by their charges and fees and stating I was informed.  I did sign some papers at the pick up location and questioned the CSR who stated it was verifying that I had read the terms and conditions and a few others things, but not one word was said about additional charges.  I ended up paying $46.60/day for a tiny sub-compact card that I used for 63 miles.

I am almost 73 years old, and this is the first time I have been bamboozled like this.  This company has no shame.  It appears I am not the only one.  This company needs to be stopped.

Yes indeed, YOU agreed to these charges! They would have been listed line by line on the contract! You failed to read the contract. You just signed where they told you to sign. Same old story! NO RIPOFF HERE -- Complainer failed to read contract and now blames merchant because of their own failure to be s smart consumer!
