Peoplefinders.com Rob Miller Deceptive billing and business practice Sacramento California

Today we were attempting to perform a simple background check.  We searched several websites and companies offering an array of services as well as listing corasponding prices.  We chose peoplefinders.com and are now sore in the butt.  What hurts the most is that is is uncalled for bad business practice from Mr. Rob Miller aka peoplefinders.com.  

This is a bait and switch routine.  The consumer is lured in with a price and product, the consumer (myself) payes for what they believe is the product they are searching for, and then the price and product changes.  In addition, regardless of your wishes it is a reoccuring charge.  

We were wanting a background check.  Signed up for a 24.99 charge of a one time one month unlimited search.  We paid with our card.  We then attempted to run a back ground check, and then were routed to a billing page in order to pay an addition 144 dollars for a year long membership to perform "back ground" checks.  

We simply wanted a one time back ground check that was advertised for 29.99.  However we had our money stolen and were given a service to search "people".  Well heck, we can google people and find the same information as what is charged for 24.99 per month.  In addition, no where on the website does it allow for a one time purchase of a back ground check...the same checks they advertise for.  We were told by customer service that "this is the only service and price we are offering at this time" in order to do a back ground check.  Really, wow!! 

Long story short, if any other people out there have been ripped off by this company, please let me know, as we are planning a tort complaint with the state so that this does not happen to any other people.
