I'm disabled from a traumatic brain injury, which affects my ability to scan and read, especially when information is confusing and contradictory. It's most difficult when trying to  navigate websites. When I started receiving harassing phone calls and text messages, I was frightened and wanted to find out where they were coming from. I searched the number online and up popped PeopleFinders with a one time fee for $4.95. I paid the $4.95. My search yielded conflicting information with multiple names and addresses. It was absolutely useless! It's like they just spun the wheel and spit out random info. When I saw my bank statement yesterday with the $24.95 "recurring" charge, I was appalled! When I went to the PeopleFinder website, I had great difficulty trying to find what should, by ADA compliance guidelines, be easily accessible! When I called and tried to speak with a "customer service" agent about my ADA needs, the difficulty I had navigating their website and my difficulty seeing the small writing that stated that the fee would change to $24.95 in 3 days if I didn't cancel. I tried to explain myself and the agent told hung up on me because she didn't like what I was trying to tell her. I next called, asked for a supervisor, told them I was recording the call, explained my disability and my ADA needs. They wouldn't even let me talk. I was overtalked and met with "it's your responsibility....", "This is the internet and YOU should be aware..." The call went on with no satisfaction and absolutely no compromise! I advised them I would be filing this complaint on this website, the BBB, Consumer Affairs and the Department of Justice for violation of ADA website compliance. The response was, "You do what you have to. Have a nice day!".

One small problem with your complaint...

AUTHOR: Striderq - (USA)

POSTED: Sunday, January 10, 2016

From the official ADA website: The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and, if the government entities receive federal funding, the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 generally require that state and local governments provide qualified individuals with disabilities equal access to their programs, services, or activities unless doing so would fundamentally alter the nature of their programs, services, or activities or would impose an undue burden.  (Emphasis added)

The ADA establishes requirements for government and/or government funded entities. PeopleFinders is not government or government funded, therefore they do NOT have to be ADA compliant. While being sympathetic to your condition, they have done nothing wrong.Since you acknowledge your problem, maybe it would be best to have someone else review your decisions before spending money. But this responsibility is on you not the companies you do business with.
