I called tmobile tonight after my phone essentially bricked itself......I used it a couple times during dinner...then right after dinner I took it out, and the phone was stuck on a boot screen that would not go away, no matter how many times I removed the battery, tried to perform a master reset etc etc etc.....(Its the mytouch 4g fyi) The customer service rep was unable to help me either (this was after I was disconnected and transferred a few times, having to re-explain everything each time) and they offered me a replacement phone, since its still under warranty. Thats great, however they only way they are willing to do it is through the mail, and by charging me a 10 dollar shipping fee, on a defective phone that is broken through no fault of my own! I do not have a home phone and rely on my phone for work (Im a massage therapist, and cant schedule clients without any phone, also cant call anyone in case of emergency, and cant answer my door buzzer for my apartment building, because its linked to my cell phone, so even if delivery/ups gets here I won't know it, because my door buzzer wont work....and the building I live in has had known theft of packages that had been left unattended in the hallway....so Im kinda SOL! Customer service flat out REFUSED to allow me to exchange my defective phone at a store (I have one walking distance of my house I could do first thing in the morning) I explained to them, as someone who has been in retail management for a few years, that sometimes you have to bend your policies within reason to provide good customer service. I will likely be looking around for a new cell phone provider after this experience, and I will take tmobile to court over early termination fees, if they try and charge them, considering their unwillingness to provide basic local customer service. Maybe Ill get an iphone....at least they can go into the apple store and have their problems solved immediately in person!!! Oh..and heres my vid http://tinyurl.com/42d8zzo

My Mistake

I don't know where I got Verizon from, but beyond that my comments stand. As it really doesn't matter what company you are with they are all basically the same.
my friend whos got an iphone with at&t can go to any att store or apple store and troubleshoot and/or exchange her phone if there are issues....no problems, just make an appointment.
- Yes and No. You can go into any Apple Store to talk to their support(Geniuses) for free. But in looking at the iPhone warranty I saw nothing on in-store exchange. If your friend went in and exchanged a phone that was beyond the original purchase period then good for her. But unless it is in writing that doesn't mean that they will do it again. So my comment stands that where ever you get your next phone, you better be sure that there is a provision for "in-store" exchange in WRITING.
Every massage therapist I know in california uses their cell phone also for their business
- I could really care less, and whether you take them or not my comments on that were to help you in the future. Because if you take your cell phone as a 100% business deduction and get audited. You are not going to be able to convince the auditor that you make no personal calls, no matter how many people in California do it. As such they can not only disallow that entire deduction, but then take a fine tooth comb to the rest of your return and your deductions, charging you additional taxes and interest. Don't believe me just search for articles on "Deducting Cell Phones as Business expense". Now if you don't deduct your cell phone on your taxes then you have absolutely nothing to worry about, and on the flip side perhaps should actually think about deducting the portion that you use for business..after talking to a Tax Accountant. This comment was not the focus of your report just a comment noticed based on your usage claims so that will be it for this part.

Apparently you werent paying any attention Robert. I said my problem was with TMOBILE, NOT VERIZON. And....fyi...my friend whos got an iphone with at&t can go to any att store or apple store and troubleshoot and/or exchange her phone if there are issues....no problems, just make an appointment. Very simple. And yes, Im aware that phones are usually replaced with refurbished...which Im fine with as long as its in new condition. As for not having a home phone, I have unlimited cell service, as does my roomate. Why would we pay for an EXTRA phone? It doesnt make sense to do so. We live in a modern age, and most people under 30 dont have house phones any more. As for going to the store Im doing that today. This happened after the store was closed, although on the phone support they told me the store couldnt help me but I plan on going in. Also considering the circumstances one would think they could help find a better solution. As for my business, its really none of your business! Every massage therapist I know in california uses their cell phone also for their business. Dont be so ignorant!

Don't be so sure

Don't be so sure that any other provider would issue you an instant exchange if you have another defective phone. They may be able to troubleshoot the phone, which could fix the issue. But if it is a "dead" phone they will most likely have to order a replacement. Most stores do any warranty service in this way. They will usually ship you a phone by an expedited method(usually overnight or 2nd say). Then when you get that phone you send back your defective phone. Now just so you don't get another shock, most of the time you will get a refurbished phone as a replacement. All of this would be in your warranty paperwork.
So if you do get another provider make sure you ask them how they handle warranty repairs. Then since this is important to you regardless of what they tell you, make sure you have them show you every statement they make in writing.
As for Verizon. It is not their fault that you choose to not have a home phone. Unless the contract agreement provides that they must provide you with an instant replacement in your case this is not a valid reason to terminate your contract early. So if they do come after you for Early Termination fees you will most likely loose.
Have you even tried to go to the local Verizon store to see if they can assist you? Perhaps face to face they may be able to either fix the problem or exchange the phone. Possibly not, but it may be worth a try.
And just as a side note, if you are running a business having a single phone for business and personal use that is just asking for trouble. Especially if you deduct the entire cost of the cell phone as a business expense on your taxes.
