I have been contacted eight-ten times in the last six weeks by Whitewing Financial Group in Houston, Texas, trying to collect a debt that was paid over 13 years ago!

This is a family-run scam. They change the name of their company regularly. The principals in this organization are Jon Badger, Lynda Badger, Chris Badger, and Amy Badger. They have been reported to the Better Business Bureau, the state Attorney General's office, and the FTC.

My advice is not to send this company any money but instead, to deal with your original creditors. It is always a good idea to respond in writing to debt collectors letting them know that you dispute the debt (if that is the case) and telling them not to contact you again. Federal law requires that they honor that request.
