Their commercial says American Car Center King of Credit...Where your job is your credit. Hey i need a car and I had the job. So this is how my nightmare begins.
My husband went to the dealership and picked out a 2004 Chevy Trailblazer. At first they said 1200 down will put you in this car. Now we have had previous credit problems and our credit is not he best (or I wouldn't have been at this kids place anyway right) We were excited. After waiting for what seemed like ages they come back with 1700 is our bottom dollar. We took it. We sat down with finance and started signing paper work. With each turn of the page the dream started looking a little cloudy. What we thought was going to be a car loan was really a car lease. With a 2,900 balloon payment at the end of a 3 year contract. We did it anyway...i know I know stupid. Well the check engine light was on but no worries he says we will fix it. We brought it back a week later they kept it all day said it was fixed we picked it up and the light came back on the way home. Well we just decided to deal with as long as it ran ok. Well all was well for about 8 months because we paid on time. Until...............the dream turned to a NIGHMARE
My husband was injured. We paid our payments every 2 weeks and got behind 2 payments. We owed them a little under 500.00 and were 1 month passed due when they came and got it. We then had to pay a 300 repo fee pus 3 payments and other fees to get it back(1,200).
We continued payments and were fine until my husband's workman's comp stopped unexpectedly. We again got behind 2 payments and they asked us to prove that his payments stopped and they would put the payment to the end which we did . They weren't happy with either of the 2 documents we provided(1 for workman's comp and the other form the DR) and demanded payment. The same weekend all these discussions went on a guy showed up in our yard while only my kids where at home. The idiot drives his car into my wet yard and right up to my front steps. My son opened the door and said dude why did you drive through our yard. He stated he couldnt tell where the drive way ended. My Son said clearly where the gravel ends and the grass begins. he had a paper for us stating they had repeatedly tried to contact us unsuccessfully and that we needed to contact them to make arrangements on our bad debt. We had been in constant contact with them. And they were waiting on the documents we were getting for them.
On Saturday they called and asked us to turn the car in and avoid repo fees that we could pick it up when i got paid on Friday. We agreed and said we will talk to you Monday. Monday moring I came out to go to work...EMPTY driveway! The a**holes came and got it anyway. When we called them on the agreement we made they claimed they couldn't stop the repo process. We then told them were they could stick our agreement and their car. Needless to say they offered to let us pick the car up if we made the payments we were behind on plus 1 more and they would drop the repo
fee but it had to be that day. We wouldnt have it till Friday. They knew that.
Yesterday I received a letter dated the 17th of January giving us 10 days to pick up our property and if we wished to reclaim our car we would have to pay not the payments we were behind on but the remainder of our 8000 dollar lease or it would be sold at a private sale. People listen to me they are CROOKS! They lease these cars and hope you get behind. They want to come get it make it impossible for you to get it back. So then you loose what you paid and they resell it for even more profit! They need to be shut down.

Beware.....

I called one of the American Car Credit centers today. I was just calling to ask some simple questions or at least I assumed they were and should have been able to be anwered by phone. I recently relocated to Memphis just a few months ago. Since being here my car decided it wanted to stop working on me. No biggie, just needs a new starter or alternator or something mediocre I just really didnt want to put any money into fixing it right now, because I already had plans on possibly purchasing something newer since the car I currently have is a 14 yr old car. Its still in ok shape just needs some tlc... I just had no intentions on purchasing now. I planned yo wait until maybe the end of the year. But when my car stopped working i decided to try now.. Anyhow, I looked online and found American car credit center when searching for possible dealerships that may work with me since my credit is less than favorable and my time on the job I currently work is short because I just relocated. When I called in I spoke with a sales rep. I informed the rep I was calling because I had a few questions to ask. I asked if I did the credit check application online how long would it be good for? Would it be good for 30 days? I was told when u do it online its not a real credit check until u come in to their location and sign the paperwork. I asked if the program they are running was a lease program or a purchase program. I was told lease to buy. I explained my situation as far as just relocating, my short time on current job to see if it would be a factor. I even told how my car had broken down and that was my reason in looking for a car, now. The rep asked where I worked and how much I made because you have to have at least $1800 monthly in income to qualify. I was asked when I would like to come in. I explained to the rep that I only had a few hundred $ at the time. And that was the reason I asked how long the credit report would be good for. I just want to do the application now to see if I qualified and if I qualified what type of car I qualified for. I told the rep since I only had a few hundred dollars right now that I could hold off a couple weeks until i came in to do the paper work. That way if I needed $1500 to put down I would have it. I was asked if I came in today, how much was I prepared to put down. $800 was my answer. I was told oh come in today, we will work with what u have. I agreed. I get there, I find the rep I spoke to by phone. We sit down I fill out a 1 slip credit application. The rep takes the info to someone i guess to run my credit. I have no idea. When the rep comes back we talk about general stuff. Having conversation about different things in the news, etc. We did this for about an hr or so. Never once was i showed any cars I may be interested in, no test drive, nothing. Nextyhing I know the sales rep leaves the room, comes back about 5mins later, with some keys to a car and a payment schedule for me. The sales rep says I need you to sign here pointing at the paper. You have been approved for a 2008 pontiac G6..... im thinking to myself ok, im not a spring chicken ive been to a dealership or 2 in my lifetime, since when dealers stop showing u the car before you sign an agreement to pay for it. Mind you the agreement wasnt even professional. It looked like a calendar with dates circled telling me when to pay and how much. So i ask how much are the payments? Im told $200.... but im not told its $200 every two weeks. So i look at the paper i say is that every 2week? Im told yes.... so i say thats $400 per month, but for how long? Since the terms of the note arent on the paper and no one discussed with me what i was comfortable paying. Im told 4yrs. I say 4 years and what year is the car again? 2008, its currently 2014. That car is already 6yrs old. So i take my phone out to do tge calculations it comes out to d**n near $20000 for a 6 yr old pontiac g6.... so i ask the sales rep what is the finance rate on this? Sales rep couldnt answer the question because they dont tell them that type of info. How do you havw sales rep selling a product and they cant answer a question like that when they are the ones presenting the customer with the amount owed? Especially since with this dealership you guys are the bank. Its not like I was getting some outside financing where you guys dont know what the bank is doing. So im told if I want to speak to the guy handling finance before I sign for a car I still had not even seen I could. Mind you I forgot to mention I would start paying them in 2 weeks but my first 2 payments that were going to be for $250 each totaling $500 would not go to my car note at all. Those first 2 payments were going to go some $500 deferred amount, I had no idea was being deferred for the cars plates and something else I was told. So what I got out of seeing that deferred amount is, the rep told me they would take a downpayment of $700 instead of $800 because they wanted to leave me with something to go towards insurance. So they planned to take $700 down when they really wanted $1200. But insteaf of telling me theu wanted $1200 , they thought they would just add that additional $500 to my finance. So when I tell the rep I wanna speak to the guy in finance. Im escorted to the back. The rep told him I wanted to speak to him about the contract before I signed. He didnt seem too pleased. Before I could get a word out my mouth he says you will own the car for $16000 something. I say thats a 2008 what year is it, again? Im mean who in their right mind would agree to those terms on a car that age. The $400 a month wasnt even an issue it was the fact he wanted $400 for 4yrs on a car thats already old. He never answered when I asked about the finance rate. It was basically u take this what we giving u and thats it or at least thats the impression I got. So as everyone appears to be waiting for me to sign the paperwork I turn to my rep and say im sorry i have to pass. The finance manager didnt even try to see if there was something else he could do. Offer a different car, ask what I was comfortable doing, nothing.... he just looks at me and says ok fine in a dismissive way. Me and my sales rep walk off and I leave. I have never in my lif dealt with such a level of unprofessionalism.... it was completely ununbelievable. As I was leaving I saw 2 guys that looked to be in their early 20s sit down to get approved for a car. Hopefully they were smart enough to run away. To even suggest a person pay nearly $20000 on a 6yr old car unless its high end luxury is crazy. And if you are not paying attention carefully they will try to get over on you. Needless to say I will be getting my car fixed. Because if American car credit center is representing how car dealers are in Memphis I definitely will not be getting a car from any dealer here.

The management of American Car Center respectfully disagrees with this post. While anonymous posts on the internet are difficult to respond to appropriately because we have no way of knowing the actual source, we want all our customers and potential customers to know that our very popular leasing program is fully disclosed on the front end of all transactions. Our leasing program is a win-win for all involved and allows us to offer the lowest mileage, most recent model vehicles that customers want. Also, importantly, all of our customers have the option of owning the vehicle after the lease term; we believe that we get our customers to ownership status for less money and more car than any other traditional buy-here-pay-here dealerships in our markets.
More importantly, we fully encourage all our customers to come and talk to us about any complaints or problems they may have. We have an awesome complaint resolution process and strive to improve it every day. American Car Center cares about our customers' experience!
