This is our complaint filed with the BBB as well:

We purchased a sofa about 14 months ago. It was not used until recently. After about two weeks of normal use (i.e. sitting to watch television) My husband sat down on it and heard a "pop" - the next time he sat on the sofa we heard the same "pop" - so we decided to turn the sofa over to see if something was broken. Three of the supporting pieces of plywood were broken and no longer supporting the cushions. We also noticed that the wood on the back of the sofa that supports the backrest was broken. This sofa has not been abused, jumped on - nothing but normal use.

We went into the location where it was purchased and spoke with Celeste, who we explained the situation to, and she told us that the sofa was no longer under warranty and there was nothing that she could do. We asked to talk to a manager - she said she was the office manager. We asked if there was any suggestions she had to remedy the situation, and she suggested calling someone else to repair the sofa. She kept repeating that there was nothing she could do to help. Celeste did NOT suggest we speak to the store manager, write to the company, or sympathize in any way with us to regain our respect for the company - nothing. She just said she couldn't help us, which is unacceptable.

AMERICAN SIGNATURE FURNITURE's website STATES:
"Our Commitment to You
We want you to be completely satisfied with your purchase, not just today, but in years to come, which is why we have put together this online information section. It should help answer any questions you may have about our policies and/or warranties. We look forward to building our relationship with you over the years, and hope you always turn to us when in need of furnishing your home. ..."

I would appreciate if American Signature Furniture took responsibility for the sale of an inadequate product, and step outside "the book" to either replace, repair, or refund the purchase price of this sofa.

I have been contacted by Mr. Smith, the GM of the Buford, GA store, and the issue is in the midst of resolution. It has been decided that the Buford store is taking accountability for the sofa. A repair technician was sent out to look at it, record damage, and send a truck to pick it up for repair. The sofa was picked up from my house and taken to the repair facility. Upon further inspection, it was determined that it would be in the better interest to replace it, and I have been informed that I will be receiving a new sofa on 6-10-2009.

When the sofa was at the repair facility, my husband received a call from one of the associates asking if it had been dropped. He told her the details of each time it was moved (he picked it up from the store originally, loaded it on a flat trailer, took it to it's first home, where it was not used for over a year, moved it again to the current home on the same trailer, etc... and no, it had NOT been dropped.) The associate who talked to him said that the only time they'd ever seen damage that was as extensive, was when a piece of furniture was dropped off a truck. - which tells me it had probably been dropped before it was ever purchased, and weakened to the point that when it was used, it broke. I'm not faulting the Buford store for this, but it may be wise to inspect shipments more thoroughly in the future.

Anyhow, everyone I spoken with so far has been very professional and helpful in handling the issue, and I greatly appreciate them taking responsibility.
