This is what I have written to FMCSA.. It is a brief description of what I am going through right now. As I sit here waiting for a call back again..

I flew to New Albany on 3-27 to help my disabled mother with the move. I am from CT. I was told the pick up would be 3-27 or 3-28 2012. I had to fly back with my mother since she is disabled on Thurs 3-29 2012. I have been given several excuses on the delay of pick up. I have had to call them many many times. Many of my calls were not returned. I had to call them to get any answers. They only called me twice after the scheduled pick up time given to me, to ask if delay would be okay for the next day or two. I told them no and they said I have no choice but to wait for them to have the time to come get our stuff. On the day I flew out of IA I was told I was "guaranteed" a pick up on 3/31 no matter what since her lease is up then. I had to make arrangements with her neighbor to be there for the pick up which was not what we wanted to do but felt we had no other choice. Her neighbor is also elderly and I hate doing this to him and making him responsible but I had to get back to CT for work and my mother had to sign papers so she would not lose her apt here in CT since there is currently a 3 year waiting list for people who need an apt.

Now today 3-31 I am told that pick up can not be until April 1st 2012. Her lease is up today. I am again told that they can not do anything and if any $ compensation is available they can let me know Mon. 4/2 2012. The stress has caused my mother so much mental grief. I also have a depression anxiety diagnosis and have suffered 2 very serious panic attacks. I need help. Not sure what to do next.

Found NO Justice...

AUTHOR: JUSTICE! - (United States of America)

POSTED: Friday, May 25, 2012

As another TERRIBLY scorned and VERY angry victim of AVL, I have been fighting the good fight against AVL for nearly 2 years to no avail.

I went up and down the looooong list of authority / legal / govt.  figures and wrote to several types of media with my complaints...only to find no replies, non-compliance, excuses, lax attitudes, or pass the buck.

As AVL is allowed to continue with its deceitful practices, they are currently being investigated (no news to AVL); and instead of being charged and arrested as expected, they are ONLY being fined $1,500 for each "minor" infraction...and $25,000 for breaking major laws.

The salt to our wounds is:

The govt. is collecting the fines FOR the govt....while us victims have no choice but to accept the financial and material losses and emotional pains that AVL and their cohorts (the sub-contracted transporters) incurred upon us.

In other words, the govt. is happily making money at the expense of us victimized consumers...which also answers the question: 'why doesn't the govt./law demand that the AVL scammers cease and desist immediately?'

The only way I see possible to find justice for us victims is to have a national class-action lawsuit.

Forget the AG...

AUTHOR: Jim S - (United States of America)

POSTED: Saturday, April 28, 2012

and the police...and 911...  The police will only tell you that you have a civil dispute and you have to work it out with the mover.  The only contact you should have (with the exception of the moving company) is the FMCSA, and your lawyer.  Not that your lawyer will do much, but they will look out for at least some of your rights.  The AG in your state, or CT, has no jurisdiction in an interstate move, and the only entity that has any jurisdiction is the FMCSA and the three people in gov't that work in that department.  In the moving industry, the consumer has few rights, and Aldo Disorbo (and his kids) are its worst criminals.  Aldo was banned from the industry for at least one year for actions against consumers, but he's back and after hiring a reputation company to plaster good stories about him on the internet.... no one knows the crap he's pulled against folks.

The only legit moving companies are the major companies with brick and mortar buildings in your city; names such as United, Mayflower, Allied, Atlas, North American, Graebel, Bekins, and maybe 1-2 other regional movers.  At this point, I would also contact the folks at moverescue.com; they have legal folks who can best advise you on how to proceed.  Best of luck to you....

Kudos on your persistency!

I would have 911 on speed dial if two things happen: One- Holding your breath...two: The van actually shows up! That is a heart attack waiting to happen. So you got two choices...a respiratory malfunction or a heart problem . (Sorry just some humor!).
thanks for posting the update....I will add a sigh of relief when this is over from a delivery stance, yet feel upset that this has dragged on so long. Seriously what did your lawyer say? This truly is poor service for this type of industry. Its not like its anything NEW that they are to have your items moved and delivered in a logistical time frame.

Got ahold of the Owner/CEO but still no definite date for delivery

AUTHOR: Alicia - (Virgin Islands (US))

POSTED: Thursday, April 26, 2012

American van lines notes as of 4/25/12

I have sent info to BBB, FL state atty, CT state atty, Channel 3, and the ripoff site AND FEDERAL DOT assistant CT state atty called me and I sent her the contracts and dates.   She plans to contact AVL herself also. 4/25 2:00 pm

4/25  Called left message with Julian Ext 194 11:00 am Called again to general customer service spoke to Roy 11:15 am put on hold Transfer me to dept.. handling my move 11:22 am was disconnected at  11:31 am Called back at 11:32 put on hold again, Kyle picks up and then puts me back on hold He gets back on phone with NO NEW INFORMATION.  I INFORMED HIM REGARDING ME CONTACTING THE BBB, FL STATE ATTY, CT STATE ATTY, FEDERAL DOT AND MY LOCAL NEWS. I INFORMED HIM IF I DO NOT HAVE ANY ANSWERS BY 4:00 pm today I am going to call my personal atty to handle this matter. I also told him I want to speak to the CEO or equivalent at AVL today. He said he will put in a request for me to speak to a higher up manager and will contact be before 4:00 pm as I requested. NO CALLS WHATSOEVER !!

4:10 pm. I call Julian get voicemail.  Left message 4:11 pm Call general Cust Service Spoke to Maria put on hold 4:13 pm 4:20 comes back and tells me she needs to connect me to someone else to help me. On hold AGAIN.

Marcus called said my goods will be in PA on 4/27 or 4/28  Possibly Delivery to CT  around May 1st. I explained my entire story to him again and asked for the CEO name and contact info.  He said I have to talk to manager Kyle to talk to his supervisor and so on and so forth.  This is horrible.

I found a site that had the owner/CEO personal address and cell number and for the hell of it I called and it had a generic voicemail but I left a message anyway.

4/26/12 10:45 am  Kyle called to say that our furniture should be here in the next 72 hours and that he will call tomorrow with a better time frame.   I DON'T BELIEVE IT FOR A SECOND BECAUSE THEY HAVE LIED TO ME ALL ALONG.  So I asked to speak to his supervisor and he had the nerve to ask why ?  After a bit of an argument he said her name is Sarah and he will put in a request for her to call me.   This is so ridiculous, they should be able to transfer me to her ext and if she's busy at least I can leave a voicemail.

I also got an email from CT Asst State Atty General stating she is going to call them and investigate what's going on and will call me with any info she is able to get.

4:00 pm 4/26/12.

GUESS WHAT.... The CEO/Owner cell phone I called was legit.  It was Aldo Disorbo.  He called me back. I asked him some questions about who he was exactly and he kinda pussyfooted around but essentially he is the owner CEO of Nationwide Relocation Services aka American Van Lines and a couple other moving company names they use.  I think it is because if you added all the complaints from them and their so called "sister companies" this company would not be in business.  But because people put in complaints under whatever name they called for their move the complaints are spread out.  If you actually do some research you will find out each company has the same owner/CEO.

Any way he asked for my job number and while I was on the phone with him he dialed several phone numbers from another phone (in his home or office).   When he found my job number he obviously saw that I was in contact with my lawyer and the states atty's office and the federal DOT.

He stated that my home goods were in Chicago STILL.  He said he spoke to the truck driver and that they will be taking my stuff from Chicago tomorrow and if all goes the way it is set up I may have my items on Weds 5/02.   REALLY ?? That's over a month since it was picked up and 20 days past the delivery window.  He said he is going to make this happen and I should just call him directly on his cell from now on. This company needs to be penalized or fined ALOT and be forced to get their act together or get out of the moving business all together. He said he will call me on Mon 4/30.  I guess I will have to wait and see but I am not gonna hold my breath.  Once I do receive my stuff I will not just let this go.  It has become a full time job just to get someone to answer my questions.  I have a huge file of all my correspondents and phone log that has already been sent to my attorney and I will take this case as far as I can to make it right.  If anyone else would like to get involved to seek justice please let me know.  We have to stop them from doing shady UNPROFFESSIONAL business to so many victims.  I certainly feel like a victim.

Definitely work thru this

After reading your original post , and then the follow up from this moving company...I came to one conclusion. Contact the Media, the press, radio, the News, and an attorney!  This company clearly has ZERO credibility other then the COOKIE Cutter response that NO WHERE NEAR Resolves or address's your concern for QUICK and EXPEDIANT satisfaction. I am digusted with how they responded to you and continue to back burner this issue. take it to the next level. I mentally puked when I read their "we make no guarantees"...For heavens sakes your contracted!!!! This  "we'll get there when we get there"....is mindboggling! They are a moving company!! Get a move on this!!!

Please keep updating and letting us (the readers/contributors) know how this turns out. I am hoping that by a miracle they get a clue and get it done right!

Still no delivery date. No calls from them in days.

AUTHOR: Alicia - (Virgin Islands (US))

POSTED: Tuesday, April 24, 2012

Still waiting... 4/24/2012 Spoke to Julian a few days ago and was finally given balance but he said the furniture is now in Chicago. He said he was waiting to hear from dispatch with a date. He said he would call me on the 18th with more info. Finally I get a call tonight, but guess what ? It was a woman at ext 374 asking me how the delivery went and if the movers did a good job. Are you kidding me !!!!! She conveinitely called at 6:55. So when I asked for more info I was told it would have to wait til tomorrow. She said she would look into it. That is all they ever say.. We are now more than 12 days past delivery window. The response on this site from American Van Lines was so generic it is ridiculous. My mothers disabled and needs her nebuelizer and a bunch of her medical records not to mention a place to sleep and sit. She has nothing to cook with or anything. I plan on calling my personal atty as well as the States Attorny Office in the morning. Also the Better Business Bureau and anyone else who will listen as well. May look into contacting my local news investigation team. No one should have to go through this. I have been brought to tears several times trying to resolve this. When they were late for pick up they tried to bribe me into a 120.00 settlement which I would not sign. The settlement stated that I cannot bring any other claim against them, nor sue them. It also had a Clause that if I signed it I had to keep the claim and my accusations confidential. That's plain sleazy !! They are the MOST UNPROFFESSIONAL business I have ever dealt with. I have been urging anyone looking into hiring a moving company to do as much research as possible or move your own stuff. I feel so frustrated and feel like it is never going to be resolved so I am not going to just let it go. I will see this through to the end and will demand results and resolution. It has now become my full time job. If it will help others then it will all be worth it. I will also be following up with FMCSA and updating them and urge them into doing an investigation. THIS NEEDS TO STOP HAPPENING TO PEOPLE !!!
