I worked for Ashley Home Stores in Fairfield, NJ about 2 years ago. Its was a shocker at how unprofessional the operation was. There seemed like there was lots of arguments with the customers with management on a regular basis. There is a revolving door turnover with the salespeople. When I worked there I had several weeks where I didnt even make minimum wage (you work on straight commission). When I worked there they had 30 salespeople on the floor selling, so you would have to wait as much as 2 hours before you could see a customer on the "up" system. The company is very arrogant about doing pick ups in the store; they want the customer to pay for delivery so that they dont have to do the work to bring the merchandise in the store even though the have a loading dock and a warehouse person in each store. I have my resume on the internet and I still get calls from recruiters looking to fill the salespeople positions due to the high turnover. Now things may have changed, I dont know, but this was some of the issues when I worked there:

*No Fit Clause: If your furniture does not fit into your house, the company will leave your furniture on your lawn, driveway, garage. The franchise will NOT take it back to the warehouse for a redelivery in the future.

*No Pick Ups in the Store: They say that anything over a $199 has to be delivered forcing the customer to pay delivery even though they may have a truck to pick up.

*Salespeople Dont Know Product: Revolving door salespeople for this franchise equals people who cant answer real questions.

*No Refunds: Even though they may screw up your delivery date, they will tell you that there are no refunds. State law says different though if they didnt deliver on the day that they promised.

*No Modifications of Orders: Once the order is written you cant add on or delete the order at any time, even moments after the sale. This may force you to pay a new delivery charge in most cases to add furniture on.

*Cheap Furniture: Its no secret that Ashley furniture is poorly made; do your research here on the web and see all of the complaints.

*Customer Service Runs Away: Look foward to not getting right anwers to your problems, they will often refer you to a future date that you will be called or visited concerning you problems but it never happens. This is a very common complaint of Ashley stores.

This franchise, based out of Hasbrouck Heights, NJ, with stores in Paramus, Fairfield, Secaucus, puts the term "gossiping" into their employment contracts with workers. So if they dont like you, they claim that you were "gossiping" and fire you. Gossiping is defined by them to mean any derogatory talk about the company, fellow workers, product, or anything really. So if you see something that doesnt add up to being ethical, particularly the treatment of customers, and say something, look foward to being fired for gossiping.
