I visited my dental in January 2015 for a regular cleaning. At that time it was discovered that one tooth was cracked in 3 places.  I could not afford the $900.00 to crowne the tooth, so they gave me "care credit" info.  "Care Credit" wanted over $200.00 per month for the loan to fix my crowne. My dentist is very good, but since I received a flyer in the mail from Aspen Dental stating that first time patients could receive free exam and x-rays, I decided to contact  them to see if I could get my crowne for a lower cost. I had already had dental x-rays two weeks prior to my appt with Aspen, but they insisted that they had to have their own. I should have gotten up right then and left, but I reluctantly agreed.

The dental assistant kept putting film in my mouth like 9 or 10 times. I started gagging and asked her to please stop.  My real dental put only one piece of film in my mouth and it took a picture of my entire lower jaw!  The dentist came into examine my mouth, and wasn't in the room 2-3 minutes and declared to his assistant that I needed two crowns and multiple 3 or 4 cavities filled. Mind you, I had just been to my own dentist two weeks before.  In addition, there was a charge for a cleaning and topical application of Fluoride. The total bill:  $$2,637.00! I was flaberghasted.  Even with the discount from my insurance company's dental program, the bill would have been $1,884.00, for services I did not need.

Since January 2015, I have received 3 invoices, which I refuse to pay.  This is clearly a pure rip-off and I am furious that this billing will appear on my credit report. I did not keep the flyer that advertised the free examine and x-rays, but I decided to Google a search for Aspen Specials and came across a Channel 9, reporter Todd Ulrich's report on fradulent practices by Aspen Dental.  I was shocked. It never occurred to me to Google Aspen for fraud before I went for my appointment!!  Now I at least feel vindicated, and am SO happy I have not paid them one dime and will NEVER pay them for an exam and x-rays they said were free services for new patients.  I will contact Todd Ulrich and report my case as well. Thank you for this opportunity to report fraud. It is disgusting what Aspen is doing to people.
