I have 6 Sprint Phones that I carry Assurion coverage on and have for 5+ years at $8.00 per month, per phone, with $100 deductable for damaged, lost, or stolen phone. The cost of their coverage has just recently increased to $11.00 per month per phone, with the deductable going up to $150.
I have not had the need to use the claim service as we have not damage, lost or had any of our phones stolen. We recently dropped one of the handsets and shattered the screen. That phone was not due for an upgrade yet and so we filed a claim with Assurion on June 25, 2012 on line, as directed for the quickest service. On the claim they ask for both a phone number and an e-mail address. We filed the claim and checked on line for the status for several days and status continued to read "someone will contact you in 24 hours". After days with no response I contacted their customer service and was told that I needed to send a copy of photo id. I work in this industry and have checked with many of my accounts and they said they have never heard of them asking for id. Over the next several weeks we proceeed to photo copy the picture id and send it to them via an upload, via a fax, and then took a picture of the id and uploaded it to their site again. Today is July 20, 2012 and we still have not received a replacement phone. I have since won a new phone, so I have decided to not continue with this claim, however, I am considering dropping this USELESS coverage on all 6 of my phones. In 1 year alone, I have paid $576 to this company and then get this type of customer service.
I have been told that in the community where I live there is a store that will replace cracked screens on high end phones for a $70 fee. I am going there today, to see exactly what type of services they provide and seriously considering discontinuing Assurion coverage on all of my phones.
With the increase of $11 per handset, it will cost me $792 per year, which I would rather donate to a reputable charity than give to this BOGUS company.
