I learned my lesson with Bank of America the hard way. I have 2 checking accounts with BOA. I use one for my husband's daily expenses and one for bills and my daily expenses. My husband's check goes into one account and my check into the other.
One Friday morning (direct deposit day) I did the same thing I do every Friday, I decided to move some cash into the bill account so I could use my ATM card to withdraw the cash and go pay some bills.
Let me be clear here, I use a register, I verify to make sure there is nothing pending, I record all my expenses, transfers, etc... AFTER they are shown as clear. I follow the dates. This is not a matter of responsibility with finances. I have had a checking account for nearly 20 years and only once have I EVER had an OD due to a math error on my part and I happily sucked up the OD after correcting the error on my part.
After moving the money over, $600, which showed as posted immediately (NOT PENDING) I realized that my husband would need some more money for the week. I figured out exactly what I needed for money and what needed to be paid and there was $87.00 left for "free" cash. Meaning that was what was left over after my $80 cash allowance, bills, etc... So I did another transfer back to his account. Again, it POSTED immediately. It was not PENDING. I recorded the dates, amounts, etc... in my register.
Well guess what. I logged back into my account at the end of the week and BOA had CHANGED the date of the second transfer to THREE days later. Yes, a fully cleared posted transfer was dated wrong. I did that transfer within 15 minutes of the first one which showed the correct date. This resulted in NINE overdraft fees. Not a single one legitimate.
I called BOA and got $105 back and they made me eat the rest. I even called the CEO's office to try and recoup the rest. Their response was the same across the board. "Count yourself lucky you got $105 back, the computer is NEVER wrong. We see the date you made the transfer and it was blah blah blah..."
So lesson learned. I will close my BOA accounts. I will ALWAYS print a conf. page no matter what and I will tell everyone BOA is a callous uncaring, unscrupulous company that couldn't care less about it's customers.

Of all the ROR I've read about BOA, yours is the first to actually seem like a true rip off. You did everything right and you still got screwed. The only possible reason I can think of for BOA (which I am NOT defending, just playing devil's advocate) is that the second transfer occured after the cut off time for the first deposit. I don't use BOA so I don't know their policies, but at my bank the cut off time is 2 pm. So if the first transfer you made was at 1:55, and the second transfer was at 2:10, the second deposit would be credited on the next business day. You said you did this on a Friday, so in this case the second transfer wouldn't be credited until three days later - Monday night. Is this at all possible?
If not, I say fight this to the highest level you can. Try the BBB. It worked for me when I had trouble with my credit card company.
I'm sorry this happened to you!

Keep printouts of all the online transactions. This bank will stop at nothing to rip off their customers..and they do not care if you leave because they have made more money off you from these illegitimate OD fees..then they will make in 50 years if you never overdrafted..they want you to overdraft..or they don't need you...at least it seems this way self evident in their actions and response to your dispute.
The printout..along with your up to date and accurate register is EXACTLY the kind of evidence we need for some of the up coming law suits..and to present when we try to get some action in congress...because the banks defense will be that we didn't keep a register correctly so it's "all our fault".
You are a prime example of how the banks tactics make a register about as useful as a doorstop..and THIS is very important for us to debunk in the future.
Thanks and keep checking back..just enter "Bank of America" in the search on the upper right corner of this page from time to time and keep up with the events updates and reports.
