I am a photographer here in the northwest corner of montana, .
I am not a big fan of digital cameras, but I decided to purchase a 30d body. Since there are no stores in this area where professional quality camera equipment can be purchased the only choice left was the internet.
I found a company called bestpricecameras.com selling the 30D canon body only for $449.00. I placed an order with them on August 18, 2007. I received a email from bestpricecameras confirming my order SC-10582790. Three days later I received another email from jamie@bestpricecameras.com on August 21, 2007 stating that my item was on backorder and that they did not have an ETA for the item. But they would ship the item overnight at no charge to me when it came in.
After a few weeks I called 1.800.281.1823 customer service to find out the status of my order. After being on hold for what seemed like forever, it was only 18 minutes, I was told that the unit was still on backorder. When I told the customer service operator that a friend of mine had ordered a 30D a few days after I did and had received her camera. I was told that she must had order the retail camera rather than the all plastic unit that I ordered. He then told me I could upgrade to the retail version for $1,099.00 and this unit would include the battery, charger software, etc. Now I have gone over the online add and no where did it say it was all plastic version of the retail version.
I talked to a Canon dealer about this two version story and was advised that he had never heard of such a thing but would check. I buy nothing but canon equipment.. It would appear that this company is pulling a bait and switch scam on the public. While doing a search the other day I found this company is now offering the 40D for $449.00. which is selling online for well over a thousand dollars for the body only. Someone needs to stop this company for the false advertising it.
