I have had my Capital One credit card for years.  In the beginning, they were a great company, but over the last 5 years, their customer service and payment processing has been gettng steadily worse.

Customer service is out-sourced to an English As a Second language country, which seems to be the trend with companies who's ethics are slipping.

The last three months has been a lesson in futility.  If I make my payment online through my Capital One online account, the payment will be posted as paid, but it will take days for the payment to clear my checking account.

Then there is the problem of their website being down and I can't login to my account.  It's like this for days at a time.  If I call customer service, while the website login is down, their system for some unknown reason will not process my payment and repeatedly asks me to re-enter my checking account number.  Needless to say, i can't use my debit card, which would process the payment via ACH and make the payment immediately.

My payment is due on the 18th of each month and I start on the 10th of each momth trying to make my payment.  This month, I made my payment via my Chase online banking account.  It clearly states that the payment will be processed the next business day since it is an electronic payment.  After trying for days to logon or call in to make a payment, I finally made the payment on Aug 19 and it was not posted by Capital One until Aug 22.  When I call customer service today to find out why it took so long to post, I was told that it may take as long as 5 days for it to post, if I don't make my payment throught my Capital One online account.

I have paid other bills with my Chase online banking account and many post the payment the same day, some don't post until the next business day, but only Capital One takes days to post my payment.  I honestly believe Capital One is doing everything in their power to post payments late.  Keeps me from going to another credit card company and applying when Capital One reports me as paying late.

Sorry, you are wrong

I too experienced Capital One holding onto payments in order to make them late and charge late fees.  The mistake they made with me was in stamping the received date on the back and then time stamping the deposit date also.  Sent payments in plenty of time and they held the check until 12:01 am making the payment late.  I disputed this and they agreed to correct my credit report.  One year later and I am still waiting.....

When I pay by phone, the payment is never late and hasn't been since I started doing this, they can't dispute their own phone system....

So, sorry mo, you are wrong, I am not the only one to experience this, after all this is how they make their money. You must work for them

Assumption?

I am not so sure that there are laws stating that the money transfer must be posted by the next business day. It seems to me that your argument is "argumentum ad populum" which is a fallacy. In other words, other banks do it this way (posted balance by the next business day) does not mean it is illegal for other banks to do it a different way (posted balance is 3-5 business days). If you are not sure about what the bank does, you need to contact them rather than assume what the policies are. Yes, Capital One policies may not be that good, but the problem is also from consumers with assumptions.
