Horrible. I purchased a 05 4runner from Northeast Auto Finance in Bedford, OH long distance and had Carchex inspect it. It was the 155 point inspection. The report they gave me showed everything as being good.

I received it and immediately noticed things wrong. A hole the size of a quarter in the back hatch door, lots of road noise coming through the rear hatch door due to gaps between the door & the frame.

Worst of all... the emergency brake does not work at all!! They have it listed as working good in their report. Also, I get this smell coming through the ac vents when accelerating.. This tells me they just went out there & snapped pics... That's it.

The report also says no sign of rust. I immediately saw rust on the cylinder head bolts (VERY Rusty) and they look like they have been mix and matched. They aren't the original bolts. This tells me the engine has had some work.. Also, the manifolds are all corroded & rusted. Either they didn't look at the engine or they weren't ASE certified inspectors.

Had they reported this information, I never would have purchased the vehicle.

Now I hate my purchase.. Don't trust them. Its practically a passive income for them.

Don't be deceived by BBB rating

AUTHOR: Shane - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, March 23, 2010

Don't be deceived by the BBB A+ rating (if it exists).  I could easily have filed a complaint through BBB but it wasn't worth my time.  I already owned the car.  Filing a BBB complaint won't solve that problem.  I find this much more effective.

In other words, people like myself aren't willing to invest all the time & effort it takes to file a complaint against Carchex on BBB.  That's the catch with their service & that's how they can get away with poor service.

Also, they can stick their lousy excuses up your you-know-what.  You didn't have to put the vehicle on a lift to test the emergency brake.  The emergency break inspection is something that is supposed to be covered under the inspection report.  In fact, the report was blatantly marked showing that the the emergency break was tested & worked.

However, the e-brake didn't even work.  It was completely in-operable.

In addition, you don't need to move anything other than open the back door to see that there was a whole the size of a quarter in the plastic paneling on the rear door.

This random person is just dreaming up excuses so they can continue to sucker people out of $100 with no regards as to if it will result in their customers making a bad purchase.

Don't be foolish & listen to the Carchex rebuttal.  The person who wrote it was never involved in the inspection and was not there when I received the vehicle.  They are writing the same BS that they write on their website.  I made the mistake of believing the BS on the website and look where it got me.

They have no credibility.

Response to Post

Thank you for the opportunity to respond to Shanes post. At CARCHEX we strive to achieve a positive customer experience with each transaction. We work very hard and have a dedicated staff of customer service professionals as well as a highly qualified network of automobile inspectors.

While it is unfortunate that Shane was dissatisfied with his inspection report, we feel that a quality inspection was performed on the vehicle. Many of the issues noted by Shane are not a part of the pre-purchase inspection given that it would require the vehicle to be placed on a lift and parts removed, which is not possible with a mobile inspection.

CARCHEX is Accredited by the Better Business Bureau and has earned an A+ rating by delivery a high level of service for the better part of a decade. If you have any questions you may contact our customer service department directly.

We also encourage responsible customers to review our testimonials from actual customers found at https://www.carchex.com/inspect/utility/Testimonials.aspx and our sample reports found at http://www.carchex.com/inspect/utility/sample.aspx.
