CarMax says I owe due to wrong Payoff amount which is over $600.00
AUTHOR: JOHN - (United States of America)
SUBMITTED: Thursday, February 02, 2012
I just bought a car from CarMax (December 2011). I was required to call the company I had the loan with for the vehicle I was trading in during time of purchase here in Maryland. I called and received the payoff amount. CarMax also contacted my finance company for the car I was trading-in. CarMax told me the amount I was provided was incorrect. CarMax said that it was a few hundred shy of the actual amount my finance company provided me for a payoff. I figured they were the experts, called my finance company, and they/I continued with the purchase of a 2011 Toyota Van. The van has almost 18,000 miles on it, hence it is pretty new. Later CarMax called me and informed me my plates were in so I picked them up. This is important because at no other time did they contact me. Things were good up to this point. Today, 2 Feb 2012 CarMax called my home and left a nasty message stating I owe them over $600.00 due to payoff amount was incorrect. They said if I don't pay they will report me to the credit companies. Stated they have tried to reach me three times now. I have no idea how this is possible? For one my wife is a stay-at-home mom. Not sure how they can even come after me? They made the mistake. And I probably would have tried to make payment arrangements with them had it not been for a nasty voice message. Obviously they made the error. That's if it is actually an error. I read another report here on this website. Just os happens they have the same issue which leads me to beleive there is more folks with the same situation. Also makes me think this is common practice with CarMax. There are hundreds of reports listed here regarding CarMax. Granted for different reasons, but I thought they were suppose to be a professional and respectable company? I see now they're playing dirty. They sold a car to the wrong person. I am willing to take this to an attorney if they don't do the right thing. I also think there might be a class action suit here. I will be searching this and other sites such as the BBB to see who else has complaints for the same situation with CarMax.
