I was set up on a payment plan to Chase to take care of some credit card debt. They were supposed to take 92.00 out of my checking account each month until the balance was paid off. Everything was fine until I got a letter.

In this letter, it said that I was behind two payments and that to get my account current, I'd have to pay them $200 and some change. Confused, I called them to get it straightened out.

Turns out that it was a mistake on THEIR part. Then they told me that I still had to pay the 200 some odd bucks to get my account current. I asked them why I should have to pay since it was their mistake. They said that the account needs to be made current.

I said to them that this was their mistake. They were supposed to take the money out of my bank and they did not. They said that until the account was made current, they could not continue with the payment plan.

This was not my fault! The Chase people even said that it was a mistake on their part! So why should I have to pay for their mistakes??

Okay if you say they were taking out the $92 a month, but required another $200 to get current that makes a bit of a difference.

I don't know your exact situation or the "mistake". But do know that most credit card companies require you to get current(or close to current) before they will put you on a payment plan. Normally, this explained to you(and required to pay) before you go on the payment plan. So, if this is the case most likey they did make a mistake because this payment is something they would have required first, not two months later.

But the key here is that this in itself is not a RipOff. In the long run you are not "paying for their mistake". Because this is NOT your money. This is money you borrowed and would owe anyways.

You are trying to pay it back which is good. I will say that you need to do whatever you can to keep it with Chase. Because if you think dealing with them is tough. Just wait until you have to deal with a collection agency. Not to mention the bigger damage having it go to a collection agency will do to your credit report.

In response to Mr. Robert and Ms. Dee

AUTHOR: Davis - (U.S.A.)

I was keeping track of my account on line, and the money WAS drafted out, Mr. Robert and Ms. Dee. I do keep track of my bills and I do pay them. Chase's letter told me that I was behind. When I discovered that I was not, that is when I called them and was told that I would have to pay over 200 to get my account current, even though it was current. When I wrote this it was immediately after I had gotten off of the phone with them and was furious. I was mistaken in my first report by saying that they didn't take the money out of my account. Forgive me. So now answer my question, why should I have to pay for their mistakes? Or do you want to imply that I'm irresponsible and do not pay my bills again?

whether they did not draft the money correctly or not, what does that have to do with the fact that your account is $200 past due.. that is NOT their mistake, that is YOUR fault for not paying bills on time. You owe the money to become current no matter what.

Okay...

So let's get this right. They were supposed to be taking $92 a month out, yet by their mistake they didn't do that for 2 months. So you were behind $184(plus probably some interest). Now, since they didn't take it out, you of course keep track of your account balance and realize that it didn't get taken out. So you called them up and tried to find out why.

Oh wait..NO you waited until they notified you. Yes it was their error that they didn't take the money out. However, it was YOUR error in not keeping track of your account realizing that it didn't come out. So when they realized the mistake you no longer had it to pay them, because you had already spent the money.

Now, I would say you may have a complaint if you tried to pay them the $184, but they would only accept $200(and change). However, that is only about $16 difference which is not that much, where I think they might have worked something out.

"...This was not my fault! The Chase people even said that it was a mistake on their part! So why should I have to pay for their mistakes??.."
- Your not paying for their mistake(unless again you tried to pay the $184), because this is money you agreed to pay them on the Payment Plan. You should not have spent the money just because they didn't take the money out. Just be lucky that they caught it after 2 months, although YOU should have caught it after the 1st month.
