I have been a Chase Credit Card customer for 20 years. all of a sudden they are gouging their best customers. I have an 800 Fico.
On a balance due of $325 I was charged $39 late fee and $6.50 interest for 2 days late or an interest rate over 1000%!
On another card I have a balance ($1,300) with a Zero percent rate and got charged $39, and $15.50 Interest and they changed my zero percent rate to 15%. I begged over the phone to reverse changes several times. My letters to their SVP Kelley Hanick go unanswered, and ignored.
I AM TAKING CHASE TO SMALL CLAIMS COURT. EVEN IF I LOSE, I STILL WIN SINCE IT WILL COST THEM $200 TO DEFEND THEMSELVES. IF THEY ARE NO SHOWS, I will win by default and save them a little money, and get my late
charges/Interest refunded.
It's my turn to suck some blood out of them. A competing credit card issuer told me they would not charge me anything for making a payment 2 days late. Chase confirmed with me they will change penalties and interest if your ONE Day late!
Wwish me luck in samll claims court Court - Van Nuys Municiple. I will post all developments.

So,after having been with washington mutual and holding a platinum credit card,i was very leary when they changed to chase.I know now that chase is just a piece of garbage company that should be flushed down the toilet.why are we supporting a company that screws its hard working customers? My 60 year old mother was put through hell by chase after being a washington mutual customer for the last 10+ years. She quickly tried to change banks when they became chase and had one problem after another. They refused to give her her portfolio. The people were rude and snotty, and that was if they were even there. After more than a month they finally let her have her money. And now they are trying to screw me over. They closed my account due to having too high of a balance.I had a $2000 credit limit and there was only a balance of $1400 on it,which was basically from having to purchase a veicle after mine crapped out.I pay my balance on time every month, but when I tried to log on yesterday, there was a problem and it wouldnt let me log in.So I waited until Moday morning business hours, which mind you was only 9 hours after the payment was due. They told me I was being assessed a $39 late charge and there was nothing I could do besides send a letter to some a*****e.I have never heard of any ridiculous practices like that.Every company I know reverses late fees especially for something stupid like that. So,I have decided that rather than keep paying them,Im just going to let them take me to court. What are they going to do?Deduct mioney from my husband's unemployment??I hope they get a grip on reality and pull their heads out of their asses.Oh,if I have to talkto another f**king middle east employee im gonna scream.hire some americans assholes=)

I have used chase for just over 6 years now and not once have i had a problem with them that cause me to rant or rave like this gentleman.
I at one point had a problem with them very similar to what you discribed however about 15 minutes on the phone with them ended with a "I'm very sorry about that it should be corrected now" and a credit limit bump.
Chase, to my experience, is a very friendly, fair, and understanding company atleast if you also bank with them.

What are the grounds of your suit?
- Breach of Contract - NOPE. By the terms of the Agreement if you are late(even a day) they have the right to charge you a Late Fee and Interest.
- Usury - NOPE. Credit Cards are based, and fall under the regulations, of the State the company is based in. These States do not have Usury laws that apply to Credit Cards.
Now on the other side.
- Frivioulous - Possibly depending on several factors. If Chase can prove that it was just a friviolous suit not only would you loose but they could file suit against YOU for THEIR costs. I can almost guarantee that those costs would be a lot more than just $200. By the way if they do this, posting your intentions on a PUBLIC forum was probably not the smartest thing to do.
"A competing credit card issuer told me they would not charge me anything for making a payment 2 days late."
- Which company was this, because I do not know of a single company that currently does this.
Now, with all of this said I really hope you do post the update as it will be interesting to see what happens.

See your account agreement. There is a 99% chance that there is an arbitration clause in there...meaning you can't sue.
Secondly you need grounds to sue. Being pissed off over a late fee isn't a legal reason to sue someone. Read your account agreement and suck it up.
