I was wanting to check my credit on 8/23/2003. I entered this website ConsumerInfo.com aka CIC Credit Monitoring Service and was told to enter my credit card number for a 30 day free trial offer, but I would not be charged. To my knowledge the transaction did not ever go through d/t "site technical difficulties".

I went into my credit card billing page 8/26 to make sure my payment to the credit card had been posted and found a charge from this company. I checked my emails...no confirmation or username and passwords to use to access the site.

I went back to the site, emailed customer service and was told they instantly sent me the login information. This was not received.

I have called my credit card company and reported the rip-off, and have had my card reported stolen so this company can never charge me a renewal fee or any other charges.

I called 1-877-513-4175 and talked to: Carlene Operator #1678 She said the company did not allow her to give out her last name.

I told her three things: 1. I want a Refund 2. I want to cancel the Account & 3. I will be reporting this to the lawyer handling the class action lawsuit against her company & I don't think you will want me added to the list.

She took a deep breath and started giving me every reason in the world why I couldn't access the site. I told her this was not important, services were not rendered, and it was supposed to be free for 30 days to begin with. She said "I am half way through cancelling your membership right now!" She also proceeded to tell me it would take 7-10 business days to receive a refund on my credit card. (I won't hold my breath)

I have also filed a dispute form with my credit card company to dispute this charge in the event they do not issue me a credit.

I hope in some way this helps someone else from making the same mistake!

Call 1-888-888-8553 for that refund

AUTHOR: Jacqueline - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, August 30, 2003

You might have received your refund by now, but just in case: 1-888-888-8553 is the CIC number to call or that refund. So far, they have been cooperating with everyone. If they do not, please get back to us.

It sounds like you have everything under control. If you still have not received a free credit report, write or call:

Equifax
P.O. Box 740241
Atlanta, GA, 30374-0241
1-800-685-1111

Trans Union
P.O. Box 1000
Chester, PA, 19022
1-800-916-8800

Beware--Experian has recently merged allegedly with CIC, which means they endorse deceptive selling practices or will shut down this line of corruption.

Tell the credit reporting agency of your choice, that you suspect you have been subject to credit fraud, as a result of your dealings with CIC/Consumerinfo.com, and would like to confirm that there has been no damage to your report. There are other reasons for the qualifications to receive one free report annually, but those reasons vary from State to State.

At worse you should only have to pay a $9 fee, with not strings attatched.

You are right on target about the disorganized website, and lack of necessary information. If possible, for the sake of others being victimized please access: www.ftc.gov This site is run by the Federal Trade Commission who directly monitors Credit Report Agencies. It is vital that they know about any corruption in this area.

They respond to repeated patterns of complaints and reports of violations, if the numbers are high enough, in a given area.

Hope you get your refund.
