I am 19 years old and recently got a starter credit card to help build up my credit as i go start to begin college. I decided to get a FREE credit report. After doing this I called my credit card toll free # and it said that I had a balance of 79.95.

I don't remember charging this so I got a hold of customer service. She explained that the sum was charged to cic credit monitoring service. I don't remember acknowledging this company to charge my account, nor do I have $80 extra dollars while going to school to pay this off when I didn't even accept it. I've also noticed that many other people have been ripped-off the same way. So there has to be something that can be done. And if anyone can help me in any way possible please contact me by using the rebuttal box below.

Thank you

#1 Consumer Suggestion

Not much you can do

AUTHOR: Misty - (U.S.A.)

You will need to goto the web page you visited to get your "free credit report". Print out ALL documentation they are providing to the consumers that use their "service" (putting it that way makes me SICK!) and read ALL of the fine print. This was how Clearcredit.com got me; it was in the fine print that my credit card would be "authorized" for $79.95 to verify I would be able to pay for their service. About a day after I got my credit report, they disputed EVERYTHING on it! They never bothered to ask me if any of the information was correct or true; they started charging me for the disputes! Unfortunately, if the information about the "authorization" or charges to your xcredit card is in the fine print, you don't have a leg to stand on. What consumers need to understand is that these services are merely doing you a DIS-SERVICE by disputing everything on your credit report. Copies of your credit reports may now be obtained directly from the three major credit reporting agencies, AT NO CHARGE! The federal governma\ent has signed into law, the FACT Act of 2004. This states that each consumer is entitled to one free copy of each credit report, as well as their credit score, annually. Consumers need to wise up and STOP letting these con artists rip them off! Keep in mind that NO credit report is free unless you contact the reporting agency DIRECTLY.
