We have just moved from NY, and opened an account with Compass Bank. My husband's pay check is directly deposited. Yesterday, I went into the bank and wanted to have 400.00 transfer to our other checking acct. The manager said I can write a check for cash and deposit it. To my surprise the check cause my acct to OD. I don't understand if the cash is availibe then how can this OD my acct? I am with anyone that want to bring a lawsuit to this bank. In all my banking years, I have never seen such ripoff. If you deposit cash, it is posted that night after charges.. Compass the ripoff of all times.

Your withholding information or you are clueless as to what really happened. I'm gonna place my bet on your not telling us the whole story.

that if a cash deposit posts after the charges, then a direct deposit would credit after the charges also. Meaning that when you wrote the check it was processed first causing the overdraft and then the deposit was credited to your account.

Must be the water in Alabama. Sounds like you have some issues. Well good luck stuffing your money in your mattress; I am sure that will work out well for both yourself and the morons that steal your money. Listen there is 500,000 complaints about all kinds of companies on this site, not just banks. So what does this tell you? Every company and every bank out there rips you off? Um no it is about the experiences these consumers have at these places. Obviously you have a good relationship with credit unions and not with banks. But are banks rip offs? No they are not.

OK, so most bankers are $8-an-hour morons; does that make you feel better?

I stand by my statement that most banks, and bankers, are crooks.

First off I dont appreciate you calling bank employees minimum wage morons. Banks pay very well. Also credit unions are indeed very good i will not deny that, but I manage a bank in Dallas and I can tell you it is all about the experiences you haev with your banks. You should always talk to the bank manager when opening your account so you immediately have a relationship. believe me when I tell you managers can waive charges up to a certain extent and they will train you how to utilize all of the tools such as check registers, online banking, bill pay etc...to keep your check book balanced. I have heard horror stories about banks and giving out the long holds. I can tell you as a branch manager we try very hard to do anything in our power to make sure your funds are available as soon as possible for you guys. We call merchants, we check signatures, we look at images of previous checks, we look at how long you have had the account. So if you have had a bad experience at your financial institution I apologize, but not all banks are the same.

>>99.99% of banks these days are crooked and hire minimum-wage morons to work for them. Ditch your bank and join a CU; you'll never go back.

Your definition of "available" differs from most banks, not just Compass

You need to read your banking terms and agreement to determine when the funds from you husband's direct deposit is "available" which the bank's definition would be when the amount is "posted" to your account. The bank I use, for example Bank of Amigo (America), will deposit my direct deposit on Friday at midnight, but it will be be "pending": on Friday. This means, I cannot write any checks against it or use my debit card. The bank will consider the deposit "posted" Saturday. There may be also an issue for you when you make the first deposit.

Sometimes the bank will hold the first deposit because you are a new customer. I know WAMU held my payroll check deposit for 21 days (this wasn't a direct deposit) and I thought that was totally unacceptable. Twenty one days!!!! Who can wait that long when I get paid every two weeks?

So, again read your agreement with the bank.
