My husband and I purchased a truck that was financed through Credit Acceptance in December of 2009. When we bought the truck we were told that we would be able to set my account up for automatic debit of my debit card on the 20th of each month. We put down the $2,500 and took possession of our truck and about 2 weeks later we recieved the payment book. We had a little surprise when we got the book because it said that my due date was the 15th of the of each month instead of the 20th like we had agreed that it would be. I immediately called Credit Acceptance to address the issue. They said that nothing could be done and that my payment was expected on the 15th of each month. I don't get paid until the 20th so I informed them of that. I told them If they can't change the date then it's just going to be 5 days late each month. As promised to them on the 20th I got my paycheck and called them with my debit card to make my payment and set my card up for direct debit each month. They would not accept my master card which it clearly states that they accept. Thinking it was just the idiot working, I waited a bit and called back again. Again they would not accept my card. At that point I was advised that they needed an immediate payment and that I would have to go to my local Wal Mart and pay $15 over my payment to send a money gram. I was completely ticked off. I shouldn't have to pay an extra $15 / payment. That wasn't want I was told when I signed the contract. So, being a bit angry I just put it on the back burner and waited a couple of days. At 10 days late a repo man came knocking on my door. I had the cash for the payment on me, but, they refused it. So, I called Credit Acceptance once again to make the payment while the reposession company was there. They refused my payment once again. Apparently, Credit Acceptance workers take a training class on being retarded because nobody that you talk to can actually accomplish anything. I was 9 months pregnant and informed the repo men that they were on private property where it was clearly marked. I pointed at the sign and told them to leave the property immediately. At that point the repo man proceded to shove past me to try to get the drivers seat of the truck where my husband was. My husband started the truck with me behind him and backed up a bit and drove out of our yard. He circled the block and came back at which point I called the police. The police got there and the repo man actually told the cop that my husband tried to run him over. That's funny because I was standing right next to the guy. If my husband would have ran him over he would have ran me over too. I then told the cop about him pushing me when I was 9 months pregnant. The cop gave them a pretty good chewing out and informed them to never step foot on our property again. Later that night they finally accepted  my payment. It seems like to me that they just tried to pick up the truck to get a quick $1,000 in fees from us. They're a horrible company. I get calls starting on the 15th of each month. At least 7 calls a day while I'm at work. I've told them EVERY month I'm making my payment on the 20th. Still they called EVERY month harrassing me until I make the payment on the 20th. And every time they call I have to give them a 15 minute explanation on why I make the payments on the 20th. I even had one person tell me to get a payday loan on the 15th to make my payment. WTH?? They're a horrible company!

Sorry to hear of the drama, let me address some of your issues and clarify things a bit.

1) yes, you can set up auto debits from a checking and/or savings account for upt o 10 days after a due date and still be considered on time for credit reporting, but your acutal due date of the 15th is based on the contractual due date when you signed the contract.

2) Some debit cards aren't compatible with the company's system for various reasons and almost all pre paid type cards won't work at all. Next best alternative would have been to use your checking account # with the routing # to do a check by phone transaction to make the payment at that time.

3) Do you have a shut off device on your vehicle? if so, then if the payment isn't made after it shuts off, a repo order is issued.  But i would have to review your account to get more of the rest of the story.

4) Yes, you will get multiple calls starting 1 day after your due date unless you set up arrangements prior regardless if you've told us before how you pay. Depending on the account, we can set up arrangements for up to 90 days out at a time to reduce the calls to an account. If there is a shut off device on the car, then only 1 arrangement per month can be set up. The overall goal to address the behavior of the consumer and suggest alternatives to being able to pay on or before their due date. You financed with the company not because you have a 750 credit score but because there were past issues that lowered your score whether its was within your control or not to fix. Being a sub prime lender, the rules are more strict since its higher risk the company is taking on.

Hopefully this has helped you better understand the company's point of view. I deal with alot of people in general who feel they can still following the same poor habits with money and credit and think we should just suck it up, WRONG! we have no grace periods, what part of "due date" isn't clear?
