Bought and financed computer in 2004. Lost job one month later. Still managed to pay payments to Dell of $37.00 per month for about six months even though for reason not known after first two months payments went up to $42.00 per month.

After three months of not being able to pay Dell I got another job and called Encore Collection Angency which Dell had turned the account over to and made arrangements to pay the about needed to catch up the three months behind which with late charges, over the limit charges and over 29% interest was up to $194.00. I had asked new employer of I could borrow this amt. and have it taken from paycheck.

Then I proceeded to call Dell Financial to tell them that I was catching this account up in a few days and would go back to paying my $42.00 per mo. payments. I was informed very "Rudely" that in order to catch up I would have to pay $260.00 and my new monthly payments would be $72.00. I was also told that the Collection Angency did not know what they were doing and this very rude person could not give me a reason for my payments going up other than it was because I got behind.

Needless to say I cancelled the payment to the Collection angency and for the last two years I have sent $50.00 per month to Dell and what started out to be less than a $1400.00 computer is now almost $2700.00. I have now recently lowered my payments to $20.00 per month as I dont know what else to do and I have been out of work again for the last year. I would not ever be able to pay this off even if I sent $100.00 per mo.

I'm in the same situation

AUTHOR: Heather - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, July 31, 2007

I am currently experiencing the exact same situation with Dell Financial. My computer was supposed to cost $699. I unfortunately missed 3 payments (my own fault I know, I'm not making excuses), and with over the limit fees, my balance ballooned to $2200.

I now have it down to $1500, but that is by setting up an automatic payment every week for $35, so that I am paying $140 a month. I feel as if I will be paying on this account for the rest of my life.

What really gets me is that my minimum payment according to Dell is $50 a month, but I am also charged approximately $41 a month in finance fees. That means that if I could only make the minimum payment, only $9 a month would go towards my balance. It would take almost 15 years to pay the stupid account off.

I hate Dell, and I will never buy another product from them.
