It is easy to plead ignorance when dealing with Dell Financial Services. It is completely outrageous that Dell targets college students with promises of 0% interest for one year, free upgrades, free shipping, and low payments. These promises were made to me and other friends/family members. We have all been ripped off by Dell in one way or another and it is time to take matters to a higher power. Where should I begin? First, when I called Dell they offered me a wonderful deal because I was a college student. Dell promised me that I would be able to purchase a new laptop and have it paid off in 1.5 years. Four years later, I am still paying for a laptop that no longer works. I only used it for one year and trying to get it fixed via Dell has been one hurdle after another. Of course they say that my warranty has expired. Also when I spoke to Dell representatives they only were able to read from, "the script." In other words they could not explain to me why the interest rate and financing rate was so high. Not only that I asked them how they could charge a 33.3% interest rate on top of finance charges. I told them that price gouging and interest rate hikes without notification was not legal. Of course the Dell employees could not respond to this inquiry. I asked them to lower the interest rate and they "generously" agreed to an interest rate of 23.3%. As a college student, the need for an affordable computer is key to success and Dell should be ashamed of themselves for promoting business practices that lie, cheat, and steal from consumers. Finally, harassing phone calls from offshore employees makes me feel like a victim in my own home. I will no longer do business with Dell again, and I have since closed my account. As a resolve I would like to have my laptop at least repaired for free. I would also like to see Dell pay back all of their customers for exhorbent interest rates and finance charges. I also encourage college campuses to be more responsible when inviting businesses on campus. Something really needs to be done in order to protect customers.
