I received a call from a man who wanted to confirm my address so that he can send me a packet to show me how to save money.
They said that they will send a key with the information. If the Key turns the lock then I will win $50,000 in cash or in home renovations (my choice) - w/ no purchase necessary.
They also stated that I will be guarenteed to win two of the gifts below just for going to the presentation: (As stated from the Direct Buy packet):
1. dell computer laptop - inspirion 9300 (retail $1249)
2. tennis bracelet Retao; $49
3. Three (3) day (2) night vacation accomodations Retal: $175 (you have to pay a $29.95 refundable deposit when booking to redeem this item)
4. Samsung 23" LCD HDTV Retail $679
5. $500.00 Cash
I received the small packet and it confirms the above, but is it credible?
Now, I'm intrigued about the possibility of just going to a meeting (which the packet states is about 90 minutes - a little excessive!!) - HOWEVER, after reading everyone's complaints I wonder: Has Anyone Been Promised The Above Gifts and What was the outcome?
Please respond because I don't know what to do. Also, if there are any lawyers out there that can shed light to false advertising or false promises. IE: They guarentee 2 of the above listed gifts but give nothing or something completely different - then aren't there repucussions?
Thanks,
Jenna

Gift or no gift

Gift or no gift, I love my Direct Buy membership. We have saved so much on renovating our new home and we see ourselves purchasing even more products and saving even more.

In your last post you want to know how to shut these people down. You already know how to do it and you are doing it. Simply by not believing their crap, not buying the scam and not putting down 6,000 will drive them out of business. All we have to do is get the word out. Remember Direct Buy lives not by serving customers, but by selling memberships, once the membership is sold they move on to the next victim.

FREE GIFT SCAM
AUTHOR: Jenna - (U.S.A.)

Isn't that a scam? To put the free gift offer in print and then to say you have to pay for a subscription? They even have it in a small print that "no purchase necessary and a puchase will not increase your odds to win the $50,000 prize"
I'm angered by their ploy and the fact that so many people complain, yet they still have the authority to call on me and others and continue their scam!? Can someone please tell me how to bring this company to the light of the Judge and get them out of business??
Thanks!!!

Jenna, have nothing to do with Direct Buy. Warn everybody.

Hi Jenna
I am an ex employee of Direct Buy. I know their tricks.
They say on the telephone promo pitch or on TV that you will get 2 free gifts out of 5 if you come down to their showroom for an "appointment."
At the appointment, you will have to ENDURE a hard sell filled with all THEIR promises that you will save a lot of money if you buy direct from the manufacturer, thru Direct Buy. If you don't throw up after the video presentation, you will when you find out it will cost you a minimum of $4000.00 (Depending on location, some places it is $6000.00.... to join) to join to become a Direct Buy member plus $1000.00 in interest over a 2 year period if you cant fork out the membership up front in cash, plus $159.00 a year for an 8 yr period. On the back of the sales contract it says in small type that "Manufacturers are in no way under obligation to fulfill your order." IT IS A SCAM.
If you rightfully reject this monstrous lie as many thousands have, THEN AND ONLY THEN will you get the opportunity to "try your key to see if you are the Grand Prize Winner and claim your 2 free gifts."
BEWARE JENNA. Look at the odds of winning. 99% of people get the $49 tennis bracelet and the 3 day 2 night vacation. The vacation is crap: you have to be willing to pay a lot of tax on this vacation and there are other fees as well. The company just uses this a bait to lure and trap people into their pathetic filthy web of lies
Read the other posted Direct Buy reports. They give you fair warning. Every day when I worked there, I saw many people fail to turn up for their appointment and also walkout of the showroom during and after the video sales pitch and revelation of the membership fees. If you reject the sales pitch you will be treated no better than dung on the floor and asked to leave promptly and often rudely. Employees are often treated like crap.
WARN EVERYONE YOU KNOW THAT THIS IS A MONSTROUS SCAM.
Maxwell

There are no free gifts

Jenna,
The first smart thing you are doing is reading the posts about this scam, the second is not allowing yourself to lose 4800.00 for nothing. During the presentation they will hard sell you, stuff like if you don't sign up now you have to wait 7years, and that kind of crap. During the presentation the free gift will be changed from free with no obligation to you will only get a gift if you sign up. Don't waste your time or mental energy with these sociopaths. One more thing they will be really smooth, and if they sense you are not buying there garbage they will turn really nasty. Anyway there is no free gift. Remember they contacted you, and I recall a line from the old Mary Tyler show where Lou Grant states "the treasure does not do the hunting" and it is true.
