REPEAtEDLY, THIS COMPANY TRIES SHORT CHANGING ME ON CASHBACK BONUSES AND CREDITS. THIS IS THE THIRD TIME I HAVE HAD TO FIGHT WITH THEM NOT BILLING ME CORRECTLY IN THE LAST YEAR. AS OF JAN 2,2006, I HAVE E-MAILED THEIR CUSTOMER CARE PERSON THREE TIMES. MY ACCOUNT WAS CHARGED A TOTAL OF $29.00 WHICH THEy CREDITED ON THE BILL STATEMENT. ON THE NEXT BILLING STATEMENT THEY TRANSFERED THE TWO TRANSACTIONS THAT TOTAL $29.00, AND ADDED IT IN AS A CHARGE. I ADDED UP ALL POST DATED TRANSACTIONS INCLUDING THIS CHARGE AND THE TOTAL THEY WANT ME TO PAY INCLUDES THE $29.90. THE DID NOT SUBTRACT IT OFF WHEN THEY TRANSFER THE BALANCES FROM THE PREVIOUS STATEMENT. SO I WAS CHARGED THEY REIMBURSED AND THEN CHARGED ME AGAIN. THEIR SAYING I WAS CREDITED AND 3 TIMES I HAVE EXPLAINED TO THEM THE PROBLEM. THEY CANT ADD NOR DO THEY UNDERSTAND WHAT I AM SAYING!!
PREVIOUSLY EVERY TIME I RECEIVED A CASHBACK BONUS THEY WOULD ADD ON A CHARGE FOR THE SAME AMOUNT. THIS HAPPENED FIVE TIMES. PLUS I HAD MADE AN OVER PAYMENT AND INSTEAD OF SHOWING A CREDIT FOR SIX MONTHS STAIGHT, THEY SHOWED THE CREDIT AS OWING THEM THE MONEY. I FINALLY FILED A COMPUTER FRAUD COMPLAINT BECAUSE I DID NOT WANT TO POINT A FINGER, BUT HAY, THEIR COMPUTER DOESN'T ALWAYS MAKE MISTAKES. PEOPLE WHO PROGRAM AND ENTER DATA DO. TELL THEIR EMPLOYEES THE NEED TO LEARN TO ADD, AND STOP RELYING ON COMPUTERS TO COMPUTE.

Possible Explanations

Here is a list of possibilities based off of what information you've given.
Cashback bonus
If you've already recieved your statement and you are calling to use cash back bonus to the bill that you have recieved, when you call in to use it, the bonus will be added to your next bill your will recieve due to the cycle date.
Example:
If your cycle date is the November 12th and your bill is due December 11th and you call in November 20th, the bonus will show on the next statement you recieve in December dated the 12th. You may still shortpay your bill due on Dec 11th by the cash back bonus you are using.
If you are a customer that pays your bill in full every month then there should be no finance charges and normally just to ensure accuracy a rep will put a follow up on your account to make sure that no finance charge is applied to your account (computers aren't 100% right all the time) and if so, take the charge off of the account and suppress residual finance charges.
If you are a customer that normally pays just the minimum payment then there is more than likely finance charges on your bill and the minimum amount still needs to be paid. The cashback bonus would just reduce your principle balance while keeping the minimum payment intact.
Credits/Disputes
I'm not exactly sure where your credit came from but it sounds like it came from a disputed charge on your bill.
When you open up a dispute case concerning a specific charge Discover will issue you a temporary credit on your bill while they are still investigating the charge on the account to allow you to shortpay your current statement until it is resolved.
Ex:
Revolving balance $100.00
Disputed charge $80
Total Due: $180
(when dispute is filed)
Revolving balance $100.00
Disputed Charge $80.00
Disputed Charge $-80.00 (temp credit)
Total Due: $100.00
Keep in mind that the temporary credit that is put on your account is discovers own money, not the company in question that charged your discover card.
When a dispute goes through and the company in question issues your credit it will look like this
Revolving balance $100.00
Disputed Charge $80.00
Disputed Charge $-80.00 (temp credit)
Disputed Charge $-80.00 (from company in question)
Disputed Charge $80.00 (reverse temp credit)
*Please note, that when looking at this it must be read as follows. You were charged 80.00, discover gave you 80.00 back before the company in question issued your credit to your card, the company in question then gave you your credit, then discover reversed theirs due to the credit being issued.
You should show a 1:1 ratio worth of credit and disputed charge. (For every $29.00 charge there should be a $29.00 credit) thus this cancels out the original charge and only leaves you with your balance.
If there is more charges than credits then that may mean that the charge was valid after the investigation. Contact 1-800-discover for any more questions.

Do to lack of details, I am making some assumptions here, please tell me if I am wrong in them.
If I understood, you are being credited for charges made on your account from the cashback award being cashed? The $29 could not be from that as Cashback can only be cased in increments of 20, so it would have to be 20, or 40, not 30.
Assuming I did not understand correctally, then there were 2 charges totally ing 29 that you did not make. If this is the case, then when did you dispute the charges? If it has been a while, then the disputes department probally remved the charges, investigated, and determined that the charges were valid, in which case they would add it back into the balnace (they would have had them remved during the investigation).
The only other option I can think of as it is 29, is that it is a lf which is not disputable. But like I said, I am unsure what exactally the charges are. If you can provide more details, then I will be happy to try and figure it out for you.
