Dish network will charge you a full month even if you pay for an existing month. If your contract is thru the 30th of a month. DONT cancel on any day except the 30th of the month. I had 7 months remaining on my contract which ended 1/30. I was paid thru 6/30 when I cancelled on 06/18. They charged me 8 months of remaining service instead of the 7 and put what I paid thru 6/30 in some random taxes, and fees I've never heard of. What a rip off!!! Be careful if you terminate early and know the exact date your contract ends.

kcs7272,

Allow me to assist you with this as I came across your post!  Please understand that as a network provider, we do reserve the right to change programming when we feel it necessary considering we pay the networks to provide them to you.  Given that, we don't have much control over the price demanded from us.  If we don't feel the price demanded from us is fair, we'll stop carrying the channel.

Not everyone uses our method shipping to return our equipment to us, so we don't feel that it's fair to increase everyone's monthly rate to cover the cost of shipping.  You are by no means required to use our boxes and labels to return the equipment to us, but we make the option available to you if you choose to use it.

To discuss your concerns a little further with you, I would encourage you to email me your account number.  My email address is michael.lemar@dish.com and I'll look forward to speaking with you!

Dish is Horrible

AUTHOR: kcs7272 - (United States of America)

POSTED: Wednesday, August 01, 2012

I cancelled my service 5 months in due to the fact Dish lied to me several times. They also removed channels from the line up in a package I specifically bought for those channels.  Not only did they hit me with the monthly termination fee but they are also charging me an additional fee for canceling my "Free HD for Life". This is canceled when you terminate service so they are billing me for canceling a free service!

Then there is the return of equipment. I was told to climb on my roof to get the dish down. I told them in no uncertain terms I would not do that and that they should send a tech. We will see what happens with that. There is also the $17 dollar per label charge FOR RETURNING THEIR EQUIPMENT. Today I called to schedule a pick up with UPS and was told there is also an additional $12 per box pick up fee!

The UPS rep. told me Dish has it set up that way! I will be driving to the UPS store later. I have never met a company that is so hostile to its customers. When I called to cancel I was placed on hold for 25 minutes then disconnected. I called back was placed on hold for 45 minutes then I go the rudest person in the world.

He decided to lecture me about the economy and gas prices and how we can't choose what we pay for services after I told him I thought the termination fee was  unreasonable because Dish employees broke every verbal promise they made and used deceptive tactics. After another half hour of this rep being rude he finally cancelled my service and pretty much taunted me with the fact I will have a $351 termination fee.

I would NEVER RECOMMEND DISH TO ANYONE!

Early Termination Fee

AUTHOR: Winston Von Stupid - (USA)

POSTED: Wednesday, July 11, 2012

The report is valid. If your contract runs until 06/30, and you call to cancel at 11:59 on 06/29, you will still be charged the early termination fee for the full month. These fees are usually prorated for each month remaining in the contract. If your early termination fee is $150 for canceling 10 months early, you will be charged $15 each month. The actual rates depend on the service provider, but they are all around the same rate.

It will usually be in your best interest to wait a few days, or even weeks, to cancel the account, depending on your contract date. You will still be charged for your normal programming, but that's usually better than a full month's charge for early termination.

For anyone looking to cancel, I would recommend looking for the start date on the actual contract. Usually it will begin from the day of install when the contract was signed, obviously. Make sure you time your cancellation after that date in whatever month you're in to save a full month of early termination charges. Watch out for other fees, which would include shipping charges and taxes on your early termination fee. As you can imaging, taxes on such a large fee can add-up, and usually come as a surprise. Good luck getting any of that money back, as the employees will gladly argue behind the contract you signed at installation.
