I subscribed to dish network and purchased programming including espn classic. about 1 year later they removed espn classic from our programming and added some other channel which we did not want. I contacted dish network and spoke with Michael Cowan, Phone # 720-514-8555. He told me that Under the contract I had with them that they were allowed to do this.He then told me I could get espn classic back by subscribing to another very expensive sports package. I threatended to end my service with them and was informed I would be charged an additional seven hundred dollars for breaking my contract. Has It gotten so bad that they can actually get away with this?I hope not.

Hi, I am a former employee of DISH Network in Colorado, and perhaps I can provide some insight into your problem. I was a callcenter Technical and Customer Support Representative.
First, if you read your contract with DISH, it states that DISH reserves the right to at any time make changes to what channels you get, and the prices on those channels/packages. This particular practice is common with ANY paid TV provider. Not just DISH Network.
As for ESPN Classic, it was moved to DISH's Multi Sports Pack which is an extra $5.99/month. I am unsure as to why they did this, but usually they move channels around because either ESPN makes DISH do it, or else DISH does it to either make more money or because of popularity of the channel. Unfortunately this often results in the customer having to pay more, so for that I absolutely understand your frustration with this matter, and as someone who watches ESPN channels myself, I am not happy about the change either.
Also, as for cancelling your service, it should NOT be $700. Under DISH's current 24-month contracts, cancellation fees should never exceed more than $420 I think. I am unsure on the exact amount, but it is in the $400 range generally.

It's just not the satellite companies that do this. It's every contract you sign that has their own best interest at heart.
I try to give my customers a blank copy of the contract before I install. But this does not mean the contract will not be the same when I install the system. I've only had it happen once and just recently. Where the blank contract i left . Was different from the one the customer signed.
I tell all my customers that the contents of the contract and the price of the programming can change at any time. Without any verbal or written notification from Dish Network.
I tell them all the time dont take my word for what is in the contract. But you must read it for yourself. The consumers should'nt be taking anyone's word for the contract. Ask questions and read the contract before you sign it.
Just recently i went to a customers home and left brochures and a blank invoice with a blank contract. I went back week later to install the system. When it came time to sign the contract the customer asked me some questions. The questions he asked led me to believe that he didnt read anything i left him.
About 99 % of the customers wont read the contract before they sign it. Also we are required to leave the customer a copy of the contract with their signature on it.
The last line of defense before you sign on the dotted line is you. Read the contract and ask questions. If they bring the wrong equipment send them back. If they dont finish and have to come back . Don't sign the contract until they are done and your happy. Also don't sign anything before they start the job.
Everything I do not only help the customer in the end. But also keeps me from going back and removing th eequipment and me getting charged back .
Their are dealer out there who know what they are doing. That is why i've got a less that 1 % turn off rate on new installs.
But when a contract is placed in front of you. Your the one who has to read it before you sign it. If you did read it. Then go back and read it again just for your knowledge. If you didn't get a copy call who ever you got your system from and ask for a copy of it. James

Per your contract, they can change the channel lineup whenever they want and raise your prices whenever they want. If you cancel your service early, they can charge you ridiculous fees. You should have done some research before signing up with them. At least thoroughly read the contract before you signed.
I have never and never will do business with satellite companies for this very reason. The contract they have you sign is so lop-sided, it should be illegal, but unfortunately it isn't.
