#3 Consumer Suggestion
Contracts

One suggestion for you for the future would be to read your contract. When you cancel a service before your contract is complete, the nice companies prorate the cancellation fees (as Dish does). If you break your contract or do do return equipment you have a card on file to take care of such charges. The company in good faith gives you high end equipment, the labor to install it, and only demands that you honor your part (a contract).
#2 UPDATE EX-employee responds
Was an earky termination fee

I am an ex employee of dish network and worked in their cancellations department the way this works is dish asks for a bank account number or credit card number to set up the account that way they do not have to charge a deposit like a cell phone company sometimes has to do when you fully read over the contract it clearly states that if you default on your account they will charge the full termination fee to the bank account or credit card provided with no prior notice I have seen people set up an account with a friend or parents credit card and see them call in when they get charged that fee claiming fraud and that they are gonna sue it has been done many many times and nobody has ever one the case against them for it because they keep extensive records of their contracts and upon request can fax, email, or snail mail you a copy of it along with our signature within 48 hours to verify what they have done is within their rights. Do not sign anything without reading it and asking questions I used to take around 50 calls per week on this one issue alone.
