Dish network charges a "DISH Home protection Plan (DHPP) fee of $5.99 each month. Who knows how long I have been paying the fee and finally caught it on my bill. They explained that this fee is if I ever have problems with "my" equipment the charge for a tech to come out is $99.00. Since I have the "Protection" Plan I would only have to pay $20.00. I told her since I already paid their "Protection" fee I had already paid over $99.00 and the tech should come for free and give my money back because they didn't "protect" me! You can add this fee in at any time and then call the company for tech support. What a scam! I will be switching companies!

Explaination of the DHPP In detail (It's not a Scam)

AUTHOR: Uchiha000 - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, December 04, 2008

Hello, I'm a Technical Support Rep at EchoStar LLC (Dish Network).
I have read your complaint about the DHPP, so allow me to offer a more detailed explanation of the charge, what it does, and how it's added/removed.

What it is:
DHPP is a $5.99/Month charge on the bill that, for new customers, is waived as a benefit to the customer for 9 months.
What it does:
-Allows for FREE (No shipping fee either) replacement of faulty parts/equipment provided we find over the phone through troubleshooting that the part needs to be replaced. This includes Receivers (Boxes), Remotes (Clickers/Controllers), and Accessories (Remote Antennae, Etc.).

-Discounts In-Home Technician Service Calls. From the date of your first installation, you have 90 days of free Technician Calls to make sure everything is set up to standard. After this 90 days, Technician Calls cost between $49.00 and $99.00. If DHPP is active on the account, however, this cost is discounted to $29.00, no matter what it would've cost. In addition, each Service call (with or without DHPP) comes with an additional 90 day warranty, providing free service calls.

-Protects your equipment (if owned by DISH or the Customer) against ALL damage excluding the following:
Acts of Nature/God (Except for Surge damage. DHPP covers damage from Power Surges)
Intentional Customer Damage
Cosmetic Damage (Scuffs or case breaks that don't affect the system adversely)
Theft

-Allows the customer a free DISH Mover service once every 12 month period. DISH Movers allow a customer to have their current DISH setup at a new home at no charge for re-installation (Normally $99.00).

Other Key Points of DHPP:
-The plan does not have any commitment date.
-It can be added/removed at any time.
-Provided on account at initial install for free (Between 9 and 18 months depending on promotion)
-Allows replacement of equipment on account regardless of leased or owned status.

The main benefit is for discounted Technician Calls (Where technicians go out to the home). Our Technical Support line is always open 24/7, and is provided as a free service, however, there are problems that require a physical person to come out to the home, and that is where DHPP gives the customer benefits. It's not a scam, it's not a cheat or trick, and it's also not necessary, but it IS recommended. You can cancel it at any time, and be done with it.

I apologize that you feel it's a fraudulent charge, however, I would encourage customers to always read agreements and paperwork to the fullest extent to be fully aware of charges. If you still feel you are being unjustly treated, you have the right to a supervisor at any time during the call, and we are required to provide one to you.

Hope this helps!
