Duke Energy bought out Progress Energy about a year ago...unfortunately. Thr millage rate wrnt up immediately. Progress always had an option to extend your due date provided you didn't fsll into 3 Catagories...which I don't. Duke Energy seems to have kept the same phone options that Progress had. I should point out I never had an issue with Progress. I successfully used the extended due date a few times and always paid before that date. I hsd to put up a new deposit when Duke took over when we moved. As so many people these days, things have gotten very financially tight. I have asked Duke for an extention on 3 different occasions and was instantly denied on all 3. Its clrar at thid point that thid optopn is for looks only snd nevet granted. I know of 2 othets who have trird to extend and were also outright denied. There is no ovetsight eith this govetnment regulatef monopoly. In this horrible economy, a public utility can choose to go easiet on their custometss or simply gouge them without regard from afar. Duke had chosen the lattet. Their energy monopoly should be reviewed by the local govt and be replaced by a more user-friendly provider.

Troll alert

Wow. I guess some folks have nothing better to do than troll this site, and probably others, to find people ti abuse. I suppose that's how you get your rocks off. Whatever. It so happens the previous electric provider, Progress Energy, DID Provide extensions to those who qualified. As expected, thus did include a late fee. I haf to use this option 3 times in the padt and ALWAYS paid in full BEFORE the extended date. This is how a community-oriented business operates, regardless of your heartless opinion to the contrary. No one is suggesting the bill not be paid, or that companies not get what they are owed. However, in this horrible economy, a little understanding and leeway should be considered. I suspect companies like Duke Energy monitor these sites and have someone respond as you did to any negative report. Congrats, you get paid this week!

By freindly do you mean another company that will allow you to continue to use their product WITHOUT paying them ontime?? You do realize EXACTLY how self entitled you sound right?? It is a business, if your bill is due and you cant pay it, they are supposed to recind ANY services. We are no longer in an economy that ppl can just skip out on what they owe. If you cant pay for it, then dont use it. Its neither a ripoff or scam to expect you to pay what you RIGHTFULLY owe when it is due. Thats just called being an adult and handleing your responsabilities.

Go whine on your blog. This is a site for people with REAL problems. Not a website to complain that they expect you to pay your bill. If youre looking for the whining website, you can always try Facebook or imadeadbeatwhocantpayforwhatIuse.com
