My husband and i booked them when we were in columbia sc and  there was a problem with them so they decided to give us a credit for 50.00 to use anytime at any hotel.  well i called them yesterday to book one here in fayetteville  nc and it was 44.00 and  they booked it and then tell me i have to put 100.00 upfront at this hotel and i asked why that this 50.00 covered the room, and they tell me well that is ours and the 100.00 is theres.makes no sense . i told her to just forget it. there seem to be fraud and a con. stay away from them people. look how many complaints  they got on here. they will cheat you. they cheated us.

While I avoid booking through "Third Party" sites, there is NO RipOff here only a lack of understading on your part.

Every hotel you stay at has some sort of "deposit" requirement to hold for any incidential purchases or expenses you have at the hotel.  The amount of this deposit varies by hotel, but on average will range anywhere from $50-$200/night. If you are staying more than a few days they may just have a set amount for the entire stay. I actually give Expedia credit for informing you of this up front but perhaps if that is the  explanation they gave you they could have been clearer.

Most require an actual Credit Card(NOT a Debit Card), and when they do the amount is just reserved but not actually charged.  At the end of your stay if you had no additional expenses the hold is released, if you did then they charge that amount.

If the hotel accepts Debit Cards the process is almost the same as a CC, with the exception that with a Debit Card the way they are processed the amount is actually deducted from your available balance at the beginning of the stay as a Pending Transaction.  So you do not have access to those funds while at the Hotel.  At the end of the stay the hotel will either release the hold or charge the amount

If they accept Cash, they just hold the amount at the beginning and at the end of the stay return any funds you did not use.

In addition to the deposit many hotels have gone to charging "Resort Fees" and no longer embed them into the room rate.  Generally these fees are going to be $20-$50/per night/per room depending on the hotel.
