Firestone will try to sell you products and services your car doesn't need.  Take their oil change options, for example.  They classify them as good, better, and best (standard, high mileage, and full synthetic.)  They will try to upsell you into one of these more expensive and more profitable products, rattling off a speech about the superiority of those products over a standard oil change.  Firestone is not in the business of designing engines and they have no idea what's best for yours.  They do, however, know that the higher dollar oil changes generate more gross profit for them.  Bottom line.....follow the recommendations of the people who built your car and not the people who are trying to scam you out of more money just so they can make more profit.  This is borderline deceptive and false advertising and should probably be reported to your states' Attorneys General.

Another example is what they call a fuel tune.  They will give you a speech about the wonders and necessity of this product...that it will restore performance, enhance fuel economy, and lower emissions.  It's a load of crap.  Bottom line......if the engineers of your engine don't require this to be done, don't do it.  You will see no benefit.  Firestone, however, will see higher profits if you do.

Yet another example is their lifetime brake service.  They will try to upsell you into replacing hydraulic portions of your brake system even if they are working.  Bottom line.....don't replace any parts Firestone recommends unless they have failed, e.g. if your calipers aren't sticking or leaking, don't replace them.

Your best bet when going to a Firestone is to follow your manufacturers' maintenance schedules and not what Firestone recommends.  In many cases, Firestone is simply trying to get you to spend more money selling you things you don't need just so their profits are higher.  Ask a lot of questions and be skeptical.

The pre-programmed scripts that employees are required to use are misleading.  If you would like, I'll gladly upload them here so that consumers may read them.  They can then judge for themselves if what they're being told is accurate or not.  I could also upload emails from corportate/district management supporting my assertions that the higher dollar items are primarily intended to increase gross profits.  Any benefits to the consumer, if there are any, are not supported by emprical evidence.

Hello,

My name is Tom and I am with the Firestone Complete Auto Care Corporate Offices. I can understand your concerns with these recommended services, however this is why it is specifically clarified that these are suggested services and not required. In fact, we have the manufacturer scheduled maitenance guides and many of our services are based off of that. Any Firestone location will be able to print one off for you. If you have any specific visits or Firestone locations that concern you, please message social@bfrc.com with the details so that we can get management involved.

-Tom

First sentence in last paragraph, you shouldn't go back there period. These people break things so they can fix them, and they rely on what people don't know about cars to get away with it.
