Gold's Gym - Titan Fitness of North Carolina LLC Illegal charges, run-around managers, withholding my own personal records, lying about fixing charges, lying about refund Durham North Carolina

I got a one-year membership with Gold's Gym. I canceled it a few months early and canceled all recurring charges (excluding necessary dues for ending my contract early).

I called to make sure there would be no more recurring charges and was promised there wouldn't be. The next day I called again, just to make sure and the girl on the phone said my account was set charge monthly still but that she fixed it for me. I called the next day, and a different guy on the phone said that the account was set to not charge anymore but that in six months the charges would start up again so I told him to cancel ALL recurring charges which he said he did. I called again to make sure the next day and the girl said my account was not set to charge anymore.

Six months later I got a $40 bill. I called and the phone was passed around about three times before I spoke to "Brian" who told me I'd be given a refund in 5-7 business days and that this "will never happen again in the future". 5-7 business days later I still have no received my refund.

I called to ask if it was possible for me to come in and get copies of my files. The man on the phone said yes, to just come in and they'd copy my records for me. I came in and gave the man my name and that I wanted copies of my records. He went to a manager (after saying there was no manager present in the club on weekends) and spoke with her for a moment in an office. The two of them came out and the manager said I'd need to come back Monday to speak with "Scott Beach" the General Manager in order to see my own files with my own information.

I'm going in tomorrow (Monday) to see Scott and try to get copies of all my records. These files include the paperwork with my express written requests to end ALL charges. These files also include sensitive information such as home address, phone number, social, bank account info, etc.

I've jumped through their hoops and I refuse to play this game anymore. I'm prepared to call the police and have already filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau (with whom Gold's Gym is not accredited).

I advise everyone interested in Gold's Gym to carefully read their contracts and any and all paperwork THOROUGHLY. Be prepared to play lengthy and expensive games with Gold's Gym and to get the run-around when dealing with staff, especially managers. My sister works at my bank and says she deals with people having this exact problem (with Gold's Gym specifically) all the time. In fact, I recommend you do not use Gold's Gym at all. I strongly advise using another club that won't steal your money.
