We were getting close to foreclosure on our home with Greenpoint Credit. I had a beautiful 4 bedroom, 2 bath manufactured home on 2 acres of land.
We had been talking to different reps from Greenpoint who all had different stories about the status of our loan. One would tell us we would be served papers within the next few days and another would tell us we had a few months to get caught up.
We had gone looking for a place to live early one morning and spent all day around town. When we returned home that evening, we noticed our trash cans were gone and the bicycles were gone. I ran inside to call the police to report the burglary, but what I saw when I got inside brought me, my wife and everyone else living there into tears.
I opened the doos to go inside and the place was empty. Everything we owned was gone. We has furniture, kitchen accessories, keep sakes, hell, even our wedding pictures were gone. I was also self employed and all my business stuff was gone. When I tried to call the Sheriff, we found out the phone was gone, too.
We found someone with a cell and phoned the local Sheriff. He told me it was a civil matter and there was nothing they could do. I called Greenpoint several times through the next few weeks, but they always said they'd call me back and never did. I tried to find an attorney, but since I was in foreclosure, they knew I couldn't afford one.
We went out to our storage room later on that week. It WAS NOT a part of the house note so we figured everything was still there. WRONG. They even cleaned out the storage room that they had absolutely no business entering; however, this made no difference to lawyers or the Sheriff.
So in a nut shell, I lost everything I owned, my business and d**n near my famiy (it was hard getting along after this and not having a place to live). I even lost the things I should have kept. Please don't allow Greenpoint the same opportunity I gave them.
The reason the address, city and state is not there, is because we always got out notices from different places. One notice would come from Dallas, the next might come from San Antonio, the next would come from Tennessee and other states. They would all tell us where to send our payment and who to call.
We would send our payment to one person and get a call the following week that the payment was not posted because we sent it to the wrong person and we either had to send another check or send proof that we mailed something out. It only took once (in which both checks were cashed and only one showed up as a paymwent). They had no reason for it and would not talk to us.
Anyway, we never really found a specific office we were to use. We just did the one that was easiest.
Also, when they took our stuff, it included all our letters from Greenpoint Credit so I was never able to show proof of anything.

Greenpoint Credit Experience

I have had a good experience with Greenpoint Credit. We have financed our home with them and made payments for the last five years. My husband is self-employed and we have gotten behind a few times in the past. Greenpoint's customer service personnel have always been pleasant to deal with. I usually pay my payment over the phone and always keep the check with the confirmation number. One time that we were late on a payment the customer service rep. sent me self addressed/pre paid postage envelopes to mail my payment to Dallas, TX. Although I feel sorry for the people on this website who have had bad experiences, I would like to suggest that you always call your creditor and let them know about your situation. It does no good to wait them out. As I said before, my husband is self-employed and money can be slow for us sometimes, I always call and let them know. My payments are usually made as a post-dated check that they cash on the day I specify. Also, they have told me that by doing this the payment is credited as being on time, it is like setting your own due date!

Learning the Hard Way

I was shocked, but not so much surprised by the rip-off stories I've just read. I would like to share some information that may help others in dealing with Greenpoint Credit.
First off, (although I do not know about Tennessee) Texas can take all your possesions and sell them at Sheriff's Auction to recoop a creditor's money. I have family living in Texas who have had that experience. They even took the children's toys, clothes, food, etc. The biggest mistake you made was to buy a house in Texas and get behind on your bills.
Greenpoint Credit has a Telephone Payment option. There is a fee of $2.50 charged when you do it that way, but the automated service gives you a CONFIRMATION NUMBER with the transaction. If you get in a dispute with Greenpoint or any other creditor about payment, make sure you have that confirmation number at hand. If they try to say the payment wasn't made, that covers you.
Also, if you talk to someone by phone, make absolutely SURE you get their first and LAST name. You won't believe the times I've talked with someone in customer service who doesn't exist when I call again!
This is a hard time for us all. I have been homeless before and know the misery intimately. Hang in there.

payment problems

we got behind on a couple of payments and made arrangemnets to pay them. we submitted the request in writing and never heard a yes or no answer. so we did what we agreed by the letter we wrote them. a few months had past and we got a knock on th door from our county sheriff giving us a notice of tresspass to leave the propperty within two weeks. we notified the court and since we wrote the agreement we were all set. so we kept on making payments as agreed. we sent them a treasures check for a payment and they tried to say they never got the check. so we called the bank and the bank had found out it was cashed and still as of today two years later not on our acccount yet. they are trying to tell us that we are 3 months behind. we had it set up to be taken out of the bank book and a couple of months they didd'nt take it. it sat there for a long time. one day they called my wife and asked where the payments were. they even harrrassed her at work. they said that we were in default of the agreement. we told them that it was in the bank. they finally took the payments out. the money order they say they never got one person said it was applied toward fees to our loan, we requested a copy of our account history and nowhere on our account the payment of the check they said they never got but cashed was not anywhere on the account. we have talked to every one there and they say they will take care of it. bull s**t. since they tried to repo the house and they screwed up our payment history no one will refinance us.
my advice is get copies of your account frequently. they even called my aunt for her to pay my loan to date.
