My daughter is a student at the Univ of MD, College Park and walked to the local Hair Cuttery for a haircut. Upon entering she was approached by an Asian woman. She asked her how much she wanted cut and then took her to the back to shampoo her hair. After wetting her hair she then asked her if she wanted shampoo. Then she proceeded to cut the hair. The haircut itself was fine, but then she asked her it she wanted it blow dried. Well, it was about 50 degrees outside so she said yes.

Now, on the sign posted, it states that a shampoo and haircut are $14.00 and a shampoo, haircut and blow dry are $18.00. After being told she wanted it blow drued, the woman went to speak with another hair(cutter)and then told my daughter the total charge would be $38.00. When my daughter questioned the price she was told it was because her hair was long, when she refused to pay $38. she was told she was told she could have a $3.00 discount, but my daughter refused and left with wet hair.

I called the Hair Cuttery the following day and when I asked how much it cost for a shampoo, haircut and blowdry I was asked if I had long or short hair, straight or curly. I then asked what the maximum amount would be for a blow dry and was told "probably about $25.00. I thought Hair Cuttery was a corporation and all salons charged the same price. Are they allowed to charge whatever they feel like even though it isn't what is posted?

I dont think you read my response clearly,or I wasnt clear enough.I said it cost extra to blow dry straighten,or curling iron set longer hair.Blow dry straighten id when you straighten out curly hair with a bkow dryer, flat iron, and other hair products, which doe stake a much longer time when hair is longer.
It is not extra for a regular shampoo, cut and dry service at Hair Cuttery.Sorry of I wasnt clear enough.
Thank you!

biggest bull

I have really long hair (almost to waist). It doesn't take any more time for me to blow dry my hair than it does for my sister to dry and fix her shoulder length hair. I always get charged around $50 and she gets the "good" price because it's shorter even though it takes more products and stuff to fix it. Mine you take a brush and dry it. no products needed.

I think it's just an excuse to get more money. I'll tip a WHOLE lot more if the price is reasonable and the cut is good.

Hair Cuttery

I worked at a Hair Cuttery for many years, so I will tell you about its pricing.
It is extra to blow dry straighten long hair.It is also extra to flat iron or curl hair with a curling iron.It can be up to 20 dollars extra if the hair is 2 inches or more past the shoulders. This situation has become more common since all these very straight styles have become so popular.
The price your daughter seen on the signs is for a shampoo, cut and regular blow dry only. When hair is extremely curly,it does take more time, more product, more tools, and therefore more money.
Sorry about the confusion!
