I bought a Samsung refrigerator from the hhgregg store in Cary, NC on April 22, 21010. It was delivered on April 26. Everything was fine until June 19 when we realized the refrigerator was not cooling. I called the Cary HHGREGG store where I had bought the refrigerator. I was referred to customer service. the lady asked what the problem was. I told her the situation and enough information for her to find purchase on her computer. As soon as she found the information the lady started to get an attitude like "What are you calling us for? She said that we had 14 days to call them if there was a problem. If we wanted their help after that we would have had to have bought some kind of HHGREGG customer service plan for the refrigerator. Since I did not buy this plan they would have nouthing to do with my problem. I would have to  call Samsung. They did ask me if I wanted the plan at the time of purchase. Knowing that these plans are basically just ripoffs on their own I said no. I asked the so called customer service lady if what she just told me was that if I had wanted customer service from HHGREGG I would have had to paid extra for it. Of course she denied this but by the time I finished she did say that if I wanted to call it paying for customer service I could. There is no better way of putting it other than saying they want you to pay extra for customer service. So, if you want to buy from a company that charges extra for decent customer service go to HHGREGG. They will be glad to sell you anything in their store and be assured that once they get your money they will be through with you in 14 days.

Makes no sense.

"When I buy a new car I get service from the dealer even though I do not buy their extended warranty."

That is because the dealer is also in the business of repairing cars.  They are also the authorized warranty repair facility for the car you bought.  The dealer is not backing the warranty, the manufacturer is.   That is an important point.

Most consumer experts do not recomend extended warranties. They are just a great way for the dealer to make more profit in the sale as the odds greatly favor the dealer. "

That it true and I would agree wholeheartedly that extended warranties are a waste of money.

"The same is true of an appliance store. I guess I still expect a retailer to appreciate their customers and try to establish lasting relationships. That must be too much to expect these days."

The point your missing is that you did not buy a warranty from this retailer.  The warranty on your refrigerator is from Samsung.   While most retailers will cover an item for an initial period (the 14 days they mentioned), after that you have to deal with the manufacturer.   The appliance retailer has no reason to fix this problem.  You didn't pay them anything to do so, so you have to deal with the manufacturer like everyone else who didn't buy the extended service plan.

Don't you think it's a bit much to expect the retailer to give you the same level of service as they give those who actually paid for it?   Bottom line, if you're going to pass on the extended service plan, your also passing on the retailer being involved in your warranty claim.

Astounding

Did HHGregg manufacture the refrigerator? No? Well then you are clearly barking up the wrong tree. Common sense dictates that you contact the manufacturer if you need service under the manufacturer's warranty.

If the store's return policy is 14 days and it is now two months later, it is TOO LATE for you to expect the store to take the refrigerator back.

I'm sure you no longer think that all extended warranties are "rip offs" now that you have experienced what happens when  you decline to purchase one. Too bad so sad.

An extended warranty or service plan, as long as it actually covers repairs/replacement above and beyond the manufacturers warranty, can be a good thing.

It is really an insurance policy..but the difference between this type of insurance, and an auto insurance policy, is you are not required by law to have it.

Now speaking of autos, an extended warranty is often a rip off..as you need to know what is actually covered. Many times they do not cover things that are known to go bad, but only cover major repairs like a transmission or major engine failure, which in most cases these components will outlast the policy.

But for consumer electronics, they can be a bargain. For example if you are buying a $2000.00 home theater system, and the manufacturoers warranty is only one year, a service plan can be good insurance. If the plan lets say is 200 dollars... breaks down to a little over 5 cents a day. Now is that worth it in 3 years if the system blows out and you would have to replace it with a new one, or be covered?

As stated, it is just insurance. You decide if it's worth it based on the cost of the policy, what it covers, for how long, and vs what an equal replacement will cost.

The insurance company is gambling that the product will outlast the plan, the purchaser is gambling that if the product goes bad, a repair or replacement will be provided. That simple. As with anything, read the fine print so there will be no surprises or disappointments.

You're trying to pass yourself off as the owner of this company as well guy? Come on really?  I hate HHgregg with a passion.  I am not the owner of the company because if I was, I would defiantly change who I hired... Thats for sure.  It says your the owner of the company too retard.  It's a glitch in the system since it hasn't been asking what relation we are.  I've filed my own complaint against this company on here and with the local law enforcement.  All I'm saying is he has no right to complain about not receiving services he refused to pay for.  Read my complaint if you'd like to read how they do business with honest paying customers.  "HHgregg liars and thieves"

Really?

You did not buy an extended service plan from HHgregg... I really don't know why you would complain about this.  It's basically like a warranty on your car.  If something goes wrong with a new car and you declined the warranty it's no one's fault but your own.  Now you have to pay for the repairs.  However Samsung probably gives you a 1 year warranty from the date of purchase so you might be able to get them to fix it for free.  You can't expect someone to pay for repairs when you yourself declined the warranty.  Now the fact that she was rude doesn't surprise me though.  HHgregg is known to be rude and disrespectful to their employees.
