Hello,
I found a deliquent item on my credit report today for the amount of $110. The collection agency was representing Hollywood Video, stating I had movies that I returned late in February 2009 and they were collecting, (it's December 2010). I never received any notice of a outstanding balance, either via mail, or phone. And Hollywood Video had my credit card on file and never made an attempt to charge for the late fee.
I paid the collection agency because I do not want any blemishes on my credit report, however is there anything I can do about this? Aren't you supposed to be contacted if you are past do on an account so that you can pay prior to going to collections? I know I returned the DVDs, however the collection agency couldn't tell me any further details other than which DVDs were out.
Thanks

I think you were scammed. Did you contact Hollywood Video first to find out what happened?
Did the collection agency guarantee in writing that the derogatory would be removed from your credit report? I suspect it will not.
What is the name and address of this collection agency?
