This is what happened: I met a leasing agent at a property I was looking to rent. I found an eviction notice from the previous tenants on the counter which explains why I was looking at a very trashed house. The backyard was the worst! the weeds were tall as me, the pool was trashed, and it looked like all the grass was removed (just all dirt & weeds). The inside of the house needed cleaning and the carpet & kitchen floor both were stained bad. I agreed to lease the property if these conditions were fixed.

I was called in to sign the lease and pick up the keys. Afterwards I went to the house and was very surprised to find nothing done. I contacted the leasing agent and he said it was all his fault. He forgot to remove the lock off the gate so the landscaper & pool guy could not get in. He also told me that the maintenance guy he submits requests to did not submit the carpet and general cleaning request.

He then informed my wife and I that the home owner saw the bill for the front landscaping cleanup that did get done and he thought thats all he had to pay and was upset he had to pay more. The agent said the home owner and he both wanted to offer us 100 dollars off rent if we did these repairs ourselves. We agreed and spent our own money getting the carpet cleaned, sod installed, and spent 2 weeks pulling weeds (12 total 55 gal trash bags of weeds in just the backyard).

After the repairs were done we attempted to contact Homelovers for 3 months to get the 100 dollar credit. They did not respond back and seemed like the were actively ignoring us. Finally after 3 months the property manager she said she did not know what I was talking about and that we were lying. Also that she refused to contact the home owner to verify the story & we would not be getting credited the agreed amount. They also never gave me a mailbox key (which I had to get a locksmith to comeout) & never gave me garage door openers (which I had to buy). After spending hundreds of dollars of my own money and weeks of our time doing yard work to just be called a liar is a slap in the face. I've also never seen as many fees as these people charge. We paid hundreds of dollars in fees to move-in (non-refunable) but they also charge a 45 dollar a month fee. These people have complaints all over the internet and got booted out of the B.B.B., so that says it all. They will not be in business long from my opinoin and will never do business with them again!

Please contact me so we can pull together and try to stop this scamming co. Leslie and the rest of those people at home-lovers are a bunch of crooks please contact me so we can do something to stop them . I am also  a victim of home-lovers and the want me to break the lease so they can keep my deposit i started at $995.00 and this next month Leslie Dermott wants $1,034.00 plus $500.00 i can not do this and i now know that it is not going to stop. next month it will be something more and i know that it will continue to go up. please contact me so we can try to stop them. godschild0804@yahoo.com

i hear your pain

this company has just gotten worst over the years.  i  use home lovers and they are rude among other things and very incorporated they run the business like and underground illegal gambling rink.  they charge you for everything and i really mean everything if you have any normal maintenance issues you get charged for them to send a sub contractor we had a issues  with them and few things where broken and they had a man come to fix it only for it not to work so we called that same week reported same issues and they sent someone else so we had to pay again for a one of their sub contractors to come out and  this time the contractor was very nice and said that the 1st contractor installed it wrong and thats why we had issues.

another time we needed something replaced so they replaced the broken object with the cheapest replacement possible  we have beautiful fixtures in our house accompanied  by cheap loud sometimes fuse blowing ceiling fans.

yes the cheap celling fans acutuall caused for a rooms fuse to blow and we got charged again for a service call only to her that sub cintractor that he was suprised the house didnt caught on fire i stood and watched what he did when he took the fan down to see what was going on there was uncapped raw wires laying around making sparks he asked if i had installed it  which i did not if i had i would of chosen something other than the 12 dollar ceiling fans they as in home lovers installed so we have paid over the years tons of fees to home lovers.

as for the dont shoot the messenger response  give me a break your office is filled with incompetent bullies who bully both tenets and home owners  your staff in your office are rude and obnoxious and you all pat each other on the backs for that  your field staff that you hire off the street some lack knowledge in all areas you hired them for.

homelovers is more or less slumlords in my eyes you rent from home lovers not the owners so is something like the ac was to go out and the owner doesnt not want to pay for repairs  what are you stuck with out a ac  no because homelovers is your landlord and landlord and tents acts states that is something is reported to be broken and not fixed with in so many days then by az law you can put your rent in a escrow account and not pay rent til the items are fixed fully legal.

however the bullies opps i ment homelovers waits to see how dumb or submissive the renters are then move from there i would not have ever signed anything til that place was cleaned up first they dont charge cheap rent and slavery ended years and years ago.

and to home lovers i highly doubt that all your bad bbb score are from tenants that wanted their deposit back or didnt want to pay rent  our walls where never painted from when we moved in several years ago and you can see all the touch ups your company did with off coloured paint your company is just bulling individuals and their families and i would assume because you state your company will work with bad credit so this leads me to believe your taking advantage of people in sticky situations based on credit or what ever else qualifies individuals.

the bbb score you have today as i checked it is a d and you up hold that your company is always stuck in the middle give me a break your company is a property management company you manage the property so you automatically put your company in the middle  so stop crying about how you cant make both sides happy  you could of done your job and had the place cleaned up from the get go as for the key lock box im sure your maintenance team has the code and you guys dont lock the gates so the landscapers could of gotten in  your company knew that the owner was slummy like your company runs it self and wanted to see if they would do the work for  you  thats why  your not bbb approved cause homelovers is ill intended.

and my all time favourite is when you have bi annual inspections where strangers who once again sub contract with your company come in your home and take pictures  personally i think it violates some law i just never really bothered to search personally what place takes pictures of your home you could be robbed by one of the contractors obviously criminal checks are not really worried about seeing that they hire staff with dui convictions and once again personally a individual who takes the risk of drive while intoxicated is not a wise choice seeing that a family of person  could of gotten killed which really dose show ones poor choices that they can make yet homelovers has hired dui person to manage the whole company
what dose that show   that who does the hiring there makes poor choices as well which means homelovers as a company semi llc operate  has a tendncey of running on a fine line of liable to owners and renters.

homelovers has turned into the 2011  soprano mannered style  property management type of company i am just waiting for the baseball bats personally. 

once again i am sorry for your not so pleasant experience with that company  wait til your your leasing manager gets changed every few months i feel your pain  i have lived it

As the property manager we work for the Owner of the home.  We also work for the Tenants who live there.  Sometimes that puts us in the middle of a bad situation with no way to make everybody happy.  Doing work on homes is profitable for our company and good for the Owners of the homes but sometimes we can't get funding or approval to do work on a house. 

In this case, we were never given the resources to remedy the condition and we certainly can't do work on a house against the owners will or at our expense.  The Agent worked hard to come up with a solution that would make everybody happy.  It was his belief that the Owner was on board with the $100 credit and he communicated that to the Tenant. 

After the lease was executed the Owner did not remember agreeing to the credit.  Neither the Tenant or the Agent made sure the credit was spelled out in the lease.  After making several attempts to get the Owner to authorize the credit after the lease was signed it was clear that the Owner was not going to acknowledge or approve the $100. 

When we had exhausted our efforts to get the credit from the Owner, the Agent felt bad about not getting the agreement in writing and covered the credit for the tenant himself.  The Tenant has the credit they were expecting even though it didn't come from the owner of the home.

I wasn't expecting a thank you from the Tenant but the way this customer was taken care of by the HomeLovers Agent, even without the support of the owner, demonstrates our commitment to keeping our clients and customers happy.  I feel like this should have ended up being a testimonial to our efforts on the Tenants behalf, not an attack for things we can't control.

As to the BBB... most of our BBB complaints come from tenants who leave a house in bad shape and still want their full security deposit back.  In one recent complaint the tenant painted several walls an accent color, including one pink room.  We held back enough money to do touch up paint on the accent walls only.  The tenant was clearly out of bounds on painting but they still complained.  To add insult to injury, the Owner was furious that we didn't charge them for a full paint job instead of a touch up.  We were able to keep the owner from filing a complaint but in trying to create the most fair outcome possible we actually ended up with both the Tenant and Owner upset.  Neither of them were asking for a result that we felt was fair to the other.

While we respect the role the BBB plays in advising consumers, their rating system works the same way for ice cream shops as it does for management companies.  We aren't dealing with $3.00 charges that leave our customers feeling happy and wanting more.  When you are responsible for making judgment calls that affect the condition of the owners home, and the security deposit of the tenant it is simply not possible to make everybody happy every time.  With the amount of money involved, there will always be some people who use the BBB to attempt to get a resolution they just aren't entitled to.  Unfortunately, our rating reflects that.
