Well, i purchased my vehicle almost a year ago and had no problems with them receiving my payment intill 2 months ago. I take partial resposibility. Let me tell you what happened.

My husband is deployed to Iraq and got to come home for two weeks in July. While he was here, he received a phone call fromt Household Auto Finance stating that they did not get my van payment and that it was almost 15 days late, they stated that we needed to send in $241 of they were gonna come repo it soon.

Well being that my husband has been away for so long he trusted the phone call and we began to argue, see i had the money order reciept in my hand at that time. Well i let it go my husband made the extra pwayment and said that i was not paying the bills and being responsible and that he did not trust me to handle the finances.

Well the next month rolled around 8/12/04, i went to the bank as usuall to get the bill money and to get my money order for my van as i always did at the bank, well the day went by and i paid some bills went home wrote a letter to a friend in Iraq and mailed both the letter and the van payment. to sum this all up i have been getting phone calls telling me that my van payment is now 18 days late and they are going to come get it if i cant make a payment by phone. i have asked to speak with a supervisor and they tell me that i need to call the 800 418-1888 again.

i asked them for a fax number so that i may fax over a copy of the reciept for file and they gave me another number which they said was a fax and phone number for The Missing Payment Department. They called about 24 hours later and said that my payment was late and they have been trying to get ahold of me so that i may make a check by phone and they insisted that i should have been using check by phone to ensure this will never happen again. well i am currently trying to get a hold of someone to find my payment.

come to find out i mailed it to thier "payoff"location located at p.o.box 17902,san diego ca 92177 which i found odd if you look at the addresses they are all po boxes and within one digit off. I asked if they would give me a number to that location so i can try to find my payment and they gave me this runaround story of how i need to make a payment now or have my car reposses and i kept telling them that i need to speak with someone they first told me the address i mailed it to was another payment center and they dont have any way to get a hold of who runs it.

I just need to find out what is going on i mailed the payment early and dont beleive they are being truthful and after reading what has happened with the other people i need to know what i need to do befor it is to late. do i get an attorny?? of play them at their own game?? now the money order has not been cashed yet i traced it. they told me that the place i bought it would have a copy of the front and back?? i dont trust them and nothing they say checks out. the bank told me it is impossible to make a cooy of front an back of every money order all they do is keep a file of the date time amount and number of the money order.

please help me befor it is too late. my husband is filing a divorce over this it. it is that serious. it is the fact that i say one thing and the finance company says another what would you do??

Yes, Household is indeed very difficult to work with.

Hello Barbara. First I want to say that my heart goes out for you. I too have had many issues concerning payments as well as other problems. I am now pleased to say that my issues (knock on wood)have been resolved to my satisfaction. I am writing with a few things that may help you out. If anything I can save you some time possibly when dealing with them. Even though I finally worked things out and am no longer indebted to Household it took a ridiculously long time to get results.

I won't go into much detail about my issues since it would take too long. But if you wish to review the report I placed on this site then you will get all the gory details.

My advice to you is as follows. Though what I am telling you may seem of little importance I found out in the end that without all the information that I gathered I would have been unable to prove I was right.

Call Household and tell them that you dispute that your payment is late and demand that they provide you with a copy of your payment history. Please be aware that this may take an act of congress to get from them. I got promises from god only knows how many so called "person in charge" to no avail.

The reason you need a copy of your payment history is you will probably be amazed at how your payments have been recorded or not recorded. In my case my payment history was altered. It was so obvious that I wonder how anyone thought they could get away with it.

My history was missing the first 18 months of my contract, the payment due each month was inaccurate. The record indicated that I made more than the payment listed monthly however they persisted to tell me that I was behind in my payments. One month I mailed a check for more than $900.00 on a amount due showing $258.00. I felt that would more than cover any payments that they claimed were missing or behind. The record had only $160.00 of that payment applied to the principle and the lump sum they took as interest.

I got into the habit of making detailed notes of each and every person I spoke with. At first I didn't but after being told a different story each time an agent called my house or when I contacted them it became obvious that if I did eventually take suit against them that I would need to include all the names of people I spoke with. This even includes the 2 or 3 people who called my house on a daily basis with payment demands.

Also be prepared to ask over and over for a copy of that payment history. I should also tell you that you will have to repeat your story over and over again because no one ever makes any notations to the account when you speak. Also be prepared to have some down right rude comments by the agents and their supervisors.

I wrote a letter to the better business bureau and it worked for me. Most people do not get much by using the BBB but I had to stay persistent with them too to get them to stay involved.

It is not advisable to do a check by phone even though they ride your back until you do it just to get some peace from their daily calls. I read somewhere on the internet that many people refer to them as Harrasshold Auto finance! I thought that was so funny.

I know this was a long rebuttal and I hope that it helps out in some way. It took me over 4 months on the phone daily with Harrasshold finance so I know first hand that this is going to be an up hill battle, but stick to your guns and demand that they get this fixed.

Good luck with your marriage Barbara. I know that your husband being in Iraq can be a big enough strain on your marriage and this problem just makes it that much harder. We also owe gratitude to you women who must be seperated from your husbands while they fight for our and others freedom. So thanks.
