I have had 4 machines replaced in a year, the fourth is broken and after they fix or replace this one my warranty is up and other than phone help I would have to pay for a replacement. The track record for this machine doesn't give me hope that a fifth replacement will work any longer than a month or two, they won't extend my warranty to a year from the last replacement so I have to think that they don't think their machines will work for a full year. As far as I'm concerned the machines are duds and have too many problems for anyone to consider putting that kind of money out for a vacumm.

It does not matter what my machine is doing or not doing, I discuss that with the customer service at irobot, they advise me what to do and I follow their instuctions, I would not harm the machine any more by taking suggestion from unknown people off the internet. I am very happy for you that you have a machine that works and you are happy with it. Again my problem is with the warrenty that runs out before I get a machine that will work properly for more than a couple months.

Still no details?

Debbie,

You are still not telling what happens to the Roomba.

Does it just quit doing anything at all? Does it burn out in a spectacular puff of smoke? Does it beep sadly and shut down? Do parts fall off of it?

What is the machine doing or not doing that warrants returning it so often? If you were not doing maintenance that could be the culprit, but since you say you are it must be something else.

I am sorry that you are having such a bad time and would like to help if possible, but it takes more than the vague "it does not work" for anyone to help you.

Yes I maintain the machine regularly, no I don't have children at home, no I don't have pets and no I don't regularly spill water on the floor and then vacumm. My problem is not with the customer service I've received in the past year my problem is that I want a machine that works longer than a couple months.

Have you talked to IROBOT directly?

I too have a Roomba, and the charger went out. I called IRobot and they sent me out a charger within two days, no questions asked and no charge. What the heck are you doing that they break within a few months? I've heard of Roombas breaking, but it was because babies were stepping on it, running it over water, always some sort of abuse was involved. I'm sorry you have this problem, but I'm compelled to say that IRobot has treated me very well and I will continue to buy from them.

Did Debbie get all the Roomba "duds"? Mine are great! Maintenance schedule?

AUTHOR: Roseanne - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, December 08, 2005

Hello, Debbie. It is amazing to me that you say you have gotten four "dud" Roomba machines in a row and they last for only two to three months.

I have three Roombas, one of them is the older first model that did have some problems. I had a shaft part wear out. Called iRobot and had not one, but TWO, replacement parts in my mailbox within four days at no cost to me. And the machine still works. I am still using it.

The two newer models, the Discovery models, are a year old this month and I have never had trouble with them at all. They work flawlessly and the design is much improved from the older model.

So, could it be that the owner is at fault? You do not give any details about the "broken" machines, but you seem to be sending them in about every three months. Just about the time the maintenance schedule rolls around.

Are you performing maintenance on your Roombas? Do you remove the brushes and clean them? Change the filters as outlined in the manual? If you have pets that shed or people with very long hair in your household, these basic chores need to be done more often.

Have you accidentally gotten your Roombas into wet areas? Have your kids spilled drinks on them? Does your dog or cat "go" on them? Like most electronic things, liquid is not good for them.

Without more details it is hard to say what is going wrong. But, I have to put in a good word for iRobot and dispute your claim that none of the vacuums work for a year. With proper care, they can and do. And my one call to customer service was a "dream" compared to most.
