In October of 2006 I purchased a 2000 Chevrolet Cavalier that had 90,000 miles on it. It's a 2 door, nothing fancy. Blue Book value on it right now is no more than $2000. The sticker price was $7000 and with interest I will have paid $12,000 for a $2000 vehicle.

From October of 2006 until June of 2008 I was never even a day late with a payment, as the funds were taken directly out of my banking account.

In early June I lost my job due to medical reasons and made sure JD Byrider and their finance company (CNAC FINANCIAL) knew what was going on. I was behind four payments totalling $508. I got a letter in late July that stated if i did not pay the $508 by August 5th, they were going to begin repossession of my vehicle. I told them I could have them paid in full by August 8th and they actually refused payment stating that even if i was to pay the $508 by the 8th, they would still be repossessing it as they need the full amount BY the August 5th.

Note; by this time I had already paid off the sticker price of $7000 and only had the $5000 worth of interest left to pay.....

Since then I have not paid them a dime. They took me to court Monday, October 6th and were granted rights to the vehicle. The next morning I received a voicemail from the tow truck guy looking to take my car, saying that if i did not turn the car in by the end of the day I would be found in contempt of court and the car would be issued stolen. I just got my life back on track and am getting a new vehicle on November 7th, so I let them know I will be dropping off the Cavalier on November 7th, 2008.

Now yesterday morning, my phone doesn't even ring, I just received a voicemail. A man stating he was 'Deputy Sherriff Heinamann' (who surprisingly didn't leave a badge number, a district, a county, or even a phone number) called and said that he was going over a complaint and just to save me JAIL time and more court costs, he recommend I call JD Byrider and get something straightened out.

At this point and time, I am not only affraid for my well being, but also anyone else's who may have to take this torture. They have called everyone of my references numerous times, and they have all also explained the whole situation.

I recommend that a company like this be put out of business. How can they charge 24% interest and make you pay $10,000 more than a car is Blue Booked at? Also, how can they call and harrass people, threaten, and impersonate a police officer? They can have the car back, and hopefully people start to get the message that places like JD Byrider hurt you more than they will ever help you!

reverse ripoff

You are right there is a rip off, only it is YOU who ripped THEM off. You should have been responsible enough when you knew you could not pay this car off to take it back to them! Four payments behind? Amazing you could have the gall to even post this. I would be ashamed of myself had this been me. Don't cry medical foul. I have had 45 surgeries and I work to pay off my bills. So no excuses, if you have bills to pay, you have to find a way to do it. You ripped them off, not the other way around. When you signed up for this and then did not pay you voided the contract, you do owe them and believe me, they will hunt you down. Pay them before you end up in jail!

Sorry but you need to turn in the vehicle.

...your situation has nothing to do with getting your life back on track, having a vehicle by November 7 or any other specifics beyond the fact that you violated your purchase contract, you ignored court orders and are now in contempt of court and prime for arrest and additional fines.

JD Byrider and CNAC offer subprime loans for bad credit risks, so this is a case of you get what you pay for...high interest, no-holds-barred collection attempts. You admitted you were late for payments and ultimately didn't pay for your obligation, so what do you expect?

And the interest you paid for this vehicle is moot. You agreed to that amount up front, so no rip off there. Those interest rates are charged in order to make up for people like you that cry fowl when they can't meet their obligations.

Turn over your vehicle now. You are in violation of a court order and face imprisonment and even more money problems.

You agreed to it!

How can they get away with charging 24% interest? Because you AGREED to it when you signed the contract! I don't agree with their practices, or what I've heard of them anyway, but any "no credit needed" place is like that. They have to protect their investment, and charging outrageous interest is how they do it.

When you don't have a good credit rating, you pay for it in many ways, one being high interest rates. They take that $2000 Cavalier, charge you $7000 for it, plus $5000 interest, HOPING that you won't pay it off...HOPING that they will have the chance to repossess it (the first opportunity they get, they will do it) so that they can turn around and re-sell it to some other hapless soul for another outrageous sum.

It's a vicious cycle. I just passed a car lot like this one on my way to lunch today. Most of the cars there are 5-8 years old, and they have downpayments on the windshield ranging from $800 to $1200 - that's almost the total value of the vehicle on some of these! The rest is icing to them.

Good luck to getting your life back on track, then you won't EVER have to deal with an outfit like this one again!
