I work there, so what I am telling you is truth--not rumors. Tim Matthews knew months in advance about Labradorite...he just revealed it when he was threatened to be sued, and pretended he didn't have any knowledge

JTV and Andecine-Labradorite

AUTHOR: Marsha - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, March 31, 2009

What and when did JTV realize that the labradorite they were claiming to be untreated, rare gemstones was actually inexpensive stones that had been color-enhanced (copper-infused). Few will ever know the answer to that question, however, I know that two separate lawsuits were filed and resolved leading me to believe there was enough evidence to support resolution with the courts. I was fortuante. Once I learned of the lawsuits, I immediately requested a full refund of all of the labradorite I had purchased from JTV. They issued the refund in a timely manner so I got back all I had spent. This experience has caused me to be very careful and not invest much money in gemstones or jewelry from JTV. A few months ago, Colorstone magazine published an article that discussed a new enhancement treatment for tanzanite to make it appear more attractive. I started paying attention to the tanzanite that JTV was promoting and sure enough it was the deepest, richest blue - but what exactly is that blue color? I recommend that anyone who purchases the tanzanite JTV is promoting as an "opportunity knocks" special buy, have the gemstone appraised as soon as possible. My understanding is that this additional color treatment has reduced the value of the stone.

JTV is beginning to promote the labradorite again. I watched a couple of days ago about 10:00 PM and the host spent a considerable amount of time tracing JTV's experience with the stone. She compared the discovery of labradoriate to the discovery of tanzanite and emphasized its rarity and how important it would be to have it in your collection. However, interesting enough, she did not mention that at one time JTV was selling it as an "untreated" gemstone and due to a lawsuit, is now prohibited from making such a claim. I guess I wouldn't want my audience to know that either. Be cautious about what you buy from JTV. They have a good return policy so have your pieces appraised so you can be sure you are getting what you think you purchased.
